Giant Step Theatre rehearsed each week in preparation for its fall production of Mission
to Shadow Mountain; 12 performances between Oct. 20-30. There were two different
casts, each performing six times.
Minnesota Valley Photography held its general membership meeting at the LAAC on
Thursday, October 6, and a photography class on Thursday, October 27.
New classes starting this month include a Bob Ross painting workshop, a writing class,
pottery and painting for homeschooled students, cartoon drawing, glass beads,
parent/child pottery, adult beginning and intermediate pottery, abstract painting, kids
painting, oil and watercolor painting.
A preschool music class rented space two mornings a week through October for parent-
child music and rhythms class.
The St. Paul Farmers Market was open for business in the LAAC parking lot on Saturdays
throughout the summer. The last day for this season was October 22.
UCare Insurance held a seminar for Medicare recipients on Tuesday, October 4.
Lakeville Liquors held a craft beer tasting event at the LAAC on Wednesday, October 5.
Expressions Community Theater rehearsed its fall production of You Better Watch Out
which opens in November.
The Art Festival community art project this year involved applying mosaic to an 8-foot
ceramic totem. Arts Center staff worked on grouting in preparation for installation next
month.

October 9 - Belgian Waffle Breakfast. Served 572 people and profited a little over
$4,000, which includes $1,100 in matching funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Jewelry-Making Classes (new program) began. Beading class on October 18 and flame
painted copper on October 25 were well-attended.
October 12 - Seniors got a free ride on Schmitty & Sons’ new trolley. The seniors took a
ride to Applewood Orchard.
Due to the open enrollment period for health insurance, Blue Cross and Medica
representatives came to the Senior Center for informational meetings. These sessions
were well-attended.
An additional day was added for health insurance counseling by Senior Linkage Line,
because of the open enrollment period.
The Creative Writing class is in the process of compiling their writings in a book, which is
expected to be printed by February, 2012.
The Identity Theft seminar was well-attended, but two other informational seminars
were cancelled due to low registration.
The Health Angels biking club celebrated the end of the 2011 season with a potluck.
The “Lincoln Assassination” coffee lecture was well-attended.
18 new members during this time period. Total membership is 1,069.
