RESOLUTION NO. 12-
RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION AND RECOGNITION FOR
GERALD "STEVE" MICHAUD
WHEREAS, Steve Michaud has served the residents and businesses of
Lakeville for 38 years, from April 1974 to July 2012, beginning as an intern and
retiring as the Director of Parks and Recreation; and
WHEREAS, under the direction, leadership
and long -range planning
of
Steve Michaud, the City's park system has expanded
from 13 parks
in 1974 to
59
parks, 112 miles of pedestrian /bike trails, 130 acres
of greenways,
432 acres
of
conservation areas, and special facilities including the
Senior Center,
Lakeville Area
Arts Center, Heritage Center, Miracle League Field,
and Veterans
Memorial,
all
serving over 100,000 people every year; and
WHEREAS, Steve Michaud's efforts were instrumental in the City of
Lakeville receiving prestigious recognitions and awards from groups such as the MN
Governors Fit City, National Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA (18 consecutive
years); Frommer's Travel Guides Award of Excellence as one of the top 10 places to
live and raise a family; and Dakota County Soil and Water District Outstanding
Conservationist Award; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge and honor Steve
Michaud for his time and commitment to the enrichment of the City of Lakeville.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the park, trails and
conservation area currently known as North Park and North Park Conservation Area
are officially renamed "Steve Michaud Park "and "Steve Michaud Conservation
Area "in honor of Steve Michaud, the architect of the Lakeville park system.
