HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 07La Memorandum To: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council From: Steven C Mielke, City Administrator Date: February 22, 2013 City of Lakeville Administration Subject: 2013 Council Committees and Inter - Agency Appointments Annually the City Council reviews the resolution on Council Committees and Inter - Agency appointments. Most appointments are effective starting January 1 Attached is a listing of the committee and inter - agency appointments. Staff recommends that the City Council discuss and provide direction to staff for the coming year's resolution at the February 25 work session. Attachments: • 2013 Council Committees and Inter - Agency Appointments Worksheet 2013 Council Committees and Inter - agency Appointments City of Lakeville Committees: Economic Development Commission (EDC) Purpose /Mission Statement The commission studies and reviews economic development issues and advises the City Council on policies and programs relating to economic development. The Mayor, City Administrator and Executive Director of the Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce are ex -officio members to the Economic Development Commission. The ex -ofcio members are voting members of the association board. Meeting times and location Committee meets six to ten times per year at City Hall. The Chief of Police weekly informational commentary in "Breezes "is used as a primary resource to keep the committee informed of Police matters. The Board is responsible for operating and maintaining the Lakeville Ames Arena and the future King's Park Arena. Mielke* Lakeville Arenas Advisory Committee Purpose /Mission Statement Lakeville Arenas Advisory Committee was created by the Board of Directors to be a resource to the Arena Manager on issues of daily operations. The Committee also serves as a forum for users to discuss issues relating to the use of the facility. Meeting times and location As needed and determined by the Arena Manager. Michaud * Membership Org,3nizations I -35W Solutions Alliance Purpose /Mission Statement Members of the Affiance jointly and cooperatively provide an organized effort to facilitate traffic flow and capacity /n the I -35W Corridor. Members of the Solutions Alliance consist of Lakeville, Burnsville, Bloomington, Richfield, Dakota County, Apple Valley, Minneapolis and the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority. The Joint Powers Agreement states each governmental unit member shall appoint two directors and one alternate. The LMC, a membership organization representing more than 800 Minnesota cities, works /n the interest of cities and the communities they serve, achieving the mission through the expertise, involvement and cooperation of the members, Board and staff. Efforts are focused (* -staff members -10- Council Boards and Committees - 2013 on po /icy development, advocacy, information- sharing, education and training, insurance services, and other products and services to meet members'needs. Council members will serve as a voting delegate or an alternate voting delegate and represent the City of Lakeville at the League of Minnesota Cities annual conference.
