Lakeville Fire Department
Attn: Chief Mike Meyer
RE: Phil Leibfried Retirement
Dear Chief Meyer.
September 26, 2012
I have decided to retire from the Lakeville fire department effective October 4, 2012. It has been
a great run for 21 and a half years but all great things need to come to an end sometime. The new
group of rookies appears to be ready for the challenge of replacing some of the senior members of
the department. It is hard to imagine how many people have come and gone from the Lakeville
Fire Department since I first joined. My badge number is 137 and I have seen badge number 287.
That means there have been at least 150 new members on the department after I joined and that is
amazing.
As I look back on my time with the fire department, I was able to not only keep my call
and training percentages above average I also was involved in:
• Station 4 Building Committee;
• Station 2 Remodeling Committee;
• 12 years on the Relief Board;
• 2011 SCBA Committee;
• Originator of the Annual Waffle Breakfast;
• Countless open houses, mock crashes, station tours, night to unite. picnics, annual
banquet and other public service events.
• Recognition of retirees by the city council and peers
There have been a number of different mayors and city council members during my time on the
fire department and they deserve a big thank you for providing all of the firefighters with the best
equipment, training, and gear.
The support of my family has been tremendous for all of these years. My wife Mary has been so
very supportive through all my years with the department. She was understanding if I was not
around for a holiday dinner or missed washing the dinner dishes because I had to answer a page.
Lakeville Fire Department has been my family for a long time and it is hard to say good bye, but
all good things need to come to an end. It has been a privilege to serve on the fire department for
the city of Lakeville.
Sincerely,
Phil Leibfried
