HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 08P=osed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve resolution to amend the Position Classification and Pay Plan. Passage of this motion will result in grade level changes to certain non -union positions effective July 1, 2013. Ovemew City staff was directed to complete a market study for non -union positions within the city. The basis of this study is to ensure that we continue to attract and retain talent by offering competitive wages and benefits. To complete the study, staff compared benchmark positions and benefits with survey data from both public and private sector sources. Department Directors reviewed job descriptions with employees for accuracy and brought forward any changes to the Human Resources Manager and City Administrator. The Personnel Committee has reviewed the information and is recommending approval. Primary Issues to Consider What sources were used for comparison? Public and private entities may become members; however, for this survey, we used only the private sector data. ❖ League of MN Cities annually surveys public sector employers in Minnesota. Lakeville has elected to compare our salaries with the following cities: • Apple Valley • Blaine • Burnsville • Eagan • Eden Prairie • Edina • Maple Grove • Minnetonka • Plymouth • St. Louis Park • Woodbury Recommended Changes and Financing: The following table shows the recommended changes. These changes are incorporated into the attached resolution. The wage increase has been prorated to represent the effective date of July 1, 2013. This increase will be financed from the Contingency account in each of the respective funds. RESOLUTION AMENDING THE POSITION CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PLAN WHEREAS, the City Council has an adopted pay plan to provide for the compensation of employees in various positions; and WHEREAS, a market analysis and job evaluation process has been completed as directed by City Council; and WHEREAS, the results of the process have been reviewed by the City Council Personnel Committee and the Committee is recommending changes to the plan; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakeville, Minnesota: 1.
