APPROVAL OF THE 168TH STREET BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT
CHANGE ORDER NO.1
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve the 168' Street Bridge
Replacement Project Change Order No. l increasing the contract sum in the amount of
$ 7,364.60.
Passage of this motion will result in the installation of two water main gate valves on the
existing water main that runs beneath the North Creek drainage channel.
Overview
This change order adds the installation of two water main gate valves to the existing 6 -inch
water main that runs beneath the North Creek drainage channel at the intersection of 168th
Street and Gannon Avenue. The water main currently has valves at 168t Street and Gerdine
Path and at Gannon Avenue and Garland Way. Should the water main fail at any point
between those valves, it would mean shutting off water service for approximately 24
properties.
The gate valves will be installed on either side of the new bridge to reduce the impact of a
water shutoff to property owners. It also divides this long segment of water main into three
distinct parts which will allow the isolation of the segment under the bridge, should it fail,
without affecting water service to any property. Cost of the gate valve installation is
$7,364.60.
Staff has reviewed the change order and recommends approval.
Primary Issues to Consider
• What is the impact to the contract? This change order increases the contract by $7,364.60
to a total of $315,950.60.
• How important is this change to the project? It is important in minimizing the impact of a
water shutoff to properties along this segment of water main.

Please find enclosed Change Order No. 1 for the above - referenced project for your review and
approval. An existing 6 -inch water main exists beneath the North Creek Drainage Channel
crossing at the intersection of 168 Street and Gannon Avenue, over which the 168 Street
Bridge is currently being replaced. As very few water main valves exist in the area, City Staff
desires to install two (2) new 6 -inch water main gate valves on either side of the new bridge, so
that service areas within the City's water distribution system can be better isolated in the event
there is a water main failure under the bridge. The increase to the contract amount is $7,364.60,
resulting in a new contract total of $315,950.60. This change order amount will be shown on the
next construction pay voucher processed. We hereby recommend that the City of Lakeville
approve Change Order No. 1 for Redstone Construction.
