Lakeville November 14,2013 Item No. DAKOTA COUNTY 2014 LARGE COMMUNITY FUNDING APPLICATION November 18, 2013 City Council Meeting Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve a resolution approving the submittal of the 2014 Large Community Application to Dakota County. Passage of this motion will result in the City of Lakeville receiving up to $48,000 in funds to be used for City -wide recycling activities and events. Overview The City Council is being asked to approve the 2014 Large Community Funding Application for up to $48,000 in 2014. These funds have historically paid for the City's annual Watershed Cleanup Day as well as for recycling at the Art Center and Heritage Center. In 2014, these funds will continue to pay for those community items and it will also fund activities to provide improved recycling options at parks and public spaces as well as planning efforts for assisting the County in implementing organics collection. Primary Issues to Consider • How much money did the City receive last year from the grant? The City of Lakeville received $43,600 to work towards improving recycling options and awareness throughout the city. LNIF projects and programs are negotiated with Environmental Resources Department staff prior to submittal of the Application. Department approval is required to receive funding.
