HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 06.fJanuary 29, 2014 Item No. Consider Resolution Establishing 2014 Council Committees and Inter - Agency Appointments Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve Resolution Establishing 2014 Council Committees and Inter- Agency Appointments. Passage of this motion will result in assignment of Council Members and staff to serve as representatives to various City of Lakeville committees and outside organizations. Overview Council annually reviews its Committee and Inter- Agency appointments and determines which Council members and /or staff will be responsible for each assignment. At their January 28, 2014 work session, Council expressed their desire to serve on various committees and agreed to a schedule of appointments. The attached resolution reflects those assignments. Primary Issues to Consider • Have Council Members been provided with information regarding each of the committees and /or organizations? Information was provided at the January 28, 2014 work session. A list of assignments for each Council member is also enclosed. The Mayor, City Administrator and Executive Director of the Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce are ex- officio members to the Economic Development Commission. The Chief of Police weekly informational commentary in "Council Update" is used as a primary resource to keep the committee informed of Police matters. The Board is responsible for operating and maintaining the Lakeville Ames Arena and the Hasse Arena. Meeting times and location Third Wednesday, 6:00 PM, Ames Arena 2014 Board Members appointed Member Alternate Anderson Davis City Administrator Steve Mielke * Lakeville Arenas Advisory Committee Purpose /Mission Statement Lakeville Arenas Advisory Committee was created by the Board of Directors to be a resource to the Arena Manager on issues of daily operations. The Committee also serves as a forum for users to discuss issues relating to the use of the facility. Altergott (* - staff member) Council Committees and Inter - agency Appointments - 2014 Membership Organizations: 1 -35W Solutions Alliance Purpose /Mission Statement Members of the Alliance jointly and cooperatively provide an organized effort to facilitate traffic flow and capacity in the 1 -35W Corridor. Members of the Solutions Alliance consist of Lakeville, Burnsville, Bloomington, Richfield, Dakota County, Apple Valley, Minneapolis and the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority. The Joint Powers Agreement states each governmental unit member shall appoint two directors and one alternate. Steve Mielke League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) Purpose /Mission Statement Mission: "Cities building quality communities through excellence in governance, management, and services to citizens." The LMC, a membership organization representing more than 800 Minnesota cities, works in the interest of cities and the communities they serve, achieving the mission through the expertise, involvement and cooperation of the members, Board and staff. Efforts are focused on policy development, advocacy, information - sharing, education and training, insurance services, and other products and services to meet members' needs.
