HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 06Lakeville Memorandum To: Mayor, City Council & City Administrator From: Brett Altergott, Parks & Recreation Director Copy: John Hennen, Parks & Operations Manager Date: May 8, 2014 Subject: 2014 - 2018 Park Dedication Proposed Revisions City of Lakeville Parks & Recreation With the potential for two parkland acquisitions in 2014 and 2015, Administration requested that staff review the Park Dedication Fund and recommend adjustments that could be made to finance the acquisitions. After careful review of the 2014 - 2018 Park Dedication Fund staff is recommending the following revisions to the fund (see Exhibit A for general overview of the fund & Exhibit B for project detail): 1. All scheduled activities for 2014 remain, with the exception of the $12,000 irrigation project at the Aronson Park Veterans Memorial. 2. Increase 2014 expenditures by $700,000 for the acquisition of the Warweg property. 3. Move the $230,000 for the irrigation of King Park fields from 2015 to 2017. 4. Close on the sale of the King Creek Greenway (19 acres adjacent to Rose Creek) to a developer for $950,000+_ by the summer of 2015 and have the proceeds deposited in the Park Dedication Fund. 5. Move the $137,600 for the parking lot paving at Quigley -Sime from 2016 to 2017. 6. Move phase 1 King Park lighting project from 2015 to 2018. Phase 1 of the lighting project would now take place in 2017. 7. Deferred $359,730 worth of projects scheduled for 2016. The recommended adjustments to the Park Dedication Fund allows for the purchase of the Warweg property in 2014. Furthermore, assuming we sell the 19 -acre King Creek Greenway for $950,000 ($50,000 per acre) in 2015 the fund would have the estimated $1.5 million needed to acquire the remaining 30 acres of the proposed park in the Mattamy development by the end of that year.
