Item No.
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF VEHICLES
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion:
Authorizing the Sale of Forfeited Vehicles.
Approval of the motion will result in sale of vehicles.
Overview
Move to approve Resolution
The 1997 Legislature made DWI enforcement more stringent by enabling cities to seize
vehicles that are involved in certain violations. The seized vehicle may be held a minimum of
30 days prior to the expiration of the owner's right to challenge the forfeiture. Vehicles the
City currently has in storage may be disposed of in accordance with Minnesota Statute
Section 169.1217, Subd. 9. City staff is recommending that the vehicles be sold at the State
auction.
Primary Issues to Consider
Value of vehicles. The City historically has received the highest value for vehicles at the
State Auction due to the high number of bidders.
