Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve the 2014 Miscellaneous
Roadwaypairs Project Change Order No,1 increasing the contract sum in the amount of $23.860.00
Passage of this motion acknowledges the installation of two additional catchbasin structures at the
low point of the King Park parking lot and additional grading work between the existing trail along
Dodd Boulevard and the new curb section to be installed along the west side of the parking lot to
better facilitate drainage in the area.

This change order adds two new drainage structures at the low point of the King Park parking lot,
adjacent to the concession building. Prior to paving the parking lot and installing these two new
drainage structures, water would overtop the existing curb along the east side of the parking lot and
flow down the paved trail adjacent to the concession building. The installation of the new storm
sewer structures will assist with conveying the runoff generated by the newly paved parking lot into
the underground storm sewer system prior to overtopping the curb in this location.
Additional grading work was also required along the west side of the parking lot, between the existing
Dodd Boulevard trail and the new concrete curb and gutter. This grading work will sere to better
drain this area of the parking lot and extend the useful life of the new parking lot pavement.
Staff has reviewed the change order and recommends approval.
Primary Issues to Consider
• What is the impact to the contract? This change order increased the contract by $23,860.00 to a
total of $1,325,326.49.
• How important was this change to the project? Without the addition of the new storm sewer
structures and the grading work, drainage issues within the King Park parking lot would have
resulted in the premature deterioration of the new pavement surface, and created standing water
issues near the concession building and the newly constructed playground.
