APPROVAL OF THE 2014 MISCELLENEOUS ROADWAY REPAIRS PROJECT
CITY PROJECT 14-01
CHANGE ORDER NO.2
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve the 2014
Miscellaneous Roadway Repairs Proiect Change Order No. 2 increasing the contract sum in
the amount of $42,500.48
Passage of this motion acknowledges the corrective grading work and concrete curb and
gutter installation at the Lake Marion crossing beneath Kenrick Avenue.
Overview
This change order includes corrective grading work is required to address drainage issues in
that area adjacent to the new pedestrian bridge. The change order also includes the
installation of concrete curb and gutter along the east side of Kenrick Avenue that was
originally proposed to be constructed with the Kenrick Avenue Trail Improvements Project.
This curb and gutter could not be installed until such time as this corrective grading work was
completed. In order to complete the corrective grading work and allow sufficient time for the
new concrete curb and gutter to cure, Kenrick Avenue must be closed to traffic for a period of
two weeks. The change order also included the costs associated with the additional traffic
control measures needed to close the road for a period of two weeks and to post the detour
route.
Staff has reviewed the change order and recommends approval.
Primary Issues to Consider
What is the impact to the contract? This change order increased the contract by
$42,500.48 to a total of $1,367,826.97.
How important was this change to the project? Without the corrective grading in this
area, Kenrick Avenue would not drain properly, which would lead to premature
deterioration of the new pavement surface.

Subject: RE: Additional Requested Pricing
Good Afternoon, Mike -
We would like advance notice signage to go up one week prior to the road closure date stating, "This road will be closed
to thru traffic beginning on Sept. 2." We would like the advance notice signs at CSAH 60 and 205th Street.
At the north end of Kenrick Avenue, at CSAH 60, we would like an advance warning sign to read, "FOLLOW DETOUR FOR
ACCESS TO KENRICK AVENUE BUSINESSES." At the south end of Kenrick Avenue, at 205th Street, we would like an
advance warning sign to read, "ACCESS TO ALL KENRICK AVENUE BUSINESSES REMAINS OPEN."
The rest of the signage will just be the actual detour signage and type -3's for the road closures.
We will mail out letters to all of the business owners later this week informing them of the upcoming closure.
We will also obtain a permit from the County for the detour.
Thanks!
