Ordinance Amending Title 1, Chapter 6, of the Lakeville City Code
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to amend Title 1, Chapter 6, of the
Lakeville City Code concerning the City Administrator.
Passage of this motion will result in updated duties and responsibilities for the City
Administrator.
Overview
Title 1, Chapter 6, of the Lakeville City Code defines the duties and responsibilities for the City
Administrator. With the recruitment of a new City Administrator, the City Council requested
that staff review the current ordinance and make appropriate changes.
Attached is a redlined version of the proposed changes to the ordinance which will better
reflect the current policies and practices of the City. Personnel Committee has reviewed and
approved the proposed changes.

CITY ADMINISTRATOR
1-6-1: POSITION REDEFINED:
The existing position of City Administrator is hereby affirmed and such officer of the City shall have
the powers and duties prescribed hereinafter.
1-6-2: APPOINTMENT:
The City Administrator shall be appointed by a majority of the City Council for an indefinite term. The
incumbent may be removed from office after thirty (30) calendar days' written notice only by a majority
of the City Council with or without cause. If the incumbent has served as City Administrator for one
year, a public hearing before the City Council shall be provided, if requested by the Cit
Administrator prior to the date the removal takes place. The public hearing must be held within thirty
(30) calendar days after the Council votes for removal.
1-6-3: QUALIFICATIONS:
The City Administrator shall be selected solely on the basis of executive and administrative
qualifications with special reference both to experience formal education and knowledge of accepted
practices pertaining to the duties of the office.

1-6-4: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The City Administrator shall be the chief administrative officer of the City and shall be responsible to
the City Council for the proper administration of all affairs of the City and to that end shall be
empowered and required to:
A. Supervise the administration of all departments, offices and divisions of the City except as
otherwise provided by law and carry out any other responsibilities placed under his jurisdiction by
this Chapter or by subsequent Council action.
B. Interview and screen prospective City employees as permitted by law and shall make

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 1, CHAPTER 6
OF THE LAKEVILLE CITY CODE CONCERNING
THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEVILLE ORDAINS:
Section 1. Title 3, Chapter 6 of the Lakeville City Code is hereby amended to read as
follows:
