HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 07February 24, 2015 Item No.________ ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 3, CHAPTER 1 OF THE LAKEVILLE CITY CODE Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to adopt an ordinance amending Title 3, Chapter 1 of the Lakeville City Code concerning alcoholic beverages. Passage of this motion will result in an increase in liquor license fees. Overview Council members and City staff reviewed the City’s liquor license fees at last year’s budget work sessions. The current fee structure for on-sale liquor licenses has been in place since 2006. Wine and 3.2% malt liquor license fees have been in place since 1998. After extensive review of the costs incurred for license issuance and enforcement, the Finance and Police departments are recommending a rate increase. The proposed liquor license fees continue to be the lowest in the metro area. Minnesota Statute requires a public hearing prior to increasing liquor license fees. Notices were mailed to all existing license holders. To date, we have received comments from one license holder, Bob Gillen, owner of Porterhouse Steak & Seafood Grill. Primary Issues to Consider What are the current and proposed fees? (See attached) If approved, when do the new fees go into effect? License holders would be required to pay the new fee with their renewal application for the 2015/2016 license year.
