HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 06.kMarch 31, 2015 Item No. CITY CODE AMENDMENT - PLANNING COMMISSION APRIL 6, 2015 CITY COUNCIL MEETING Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve an amendment to Title 2, Chapter 1 of the City Code as presented. Passage of this motion will increase the number of Planning Commission alternates from one to two. Overview As directed by the City Council, staff has prepared an ordinance amending Title 2, Chapter 1 of the City Code concerning the composition of the Planning Commission. The proposed ordinance will add a second alternate to the Planning Commission, as well as update the vacancy notification language to be consistent with current practice. Appointment of a second Planning Commission alternate is also scheduled for the April 6tn City Council meeting. Primary Issues to Consider What will the process be for determining which alternate will attend a Planning Commission meeting in the absence of a regular member? The senior alternate will be contacted first. CITY OF LAKEVILLE DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 2, CHAPTER 1 OF THE LAKEVILLE CITY CODE CONCERNING THE PLANNING COMMISSION THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA, ORDAINS: SECTION 1. Section 2-1-2 of the Lakeville City Code is amended as follows: 2-1-2: COMPOSITION, TERMS OF OFFICE: A. Composition: The Planning Commission shall consist of ten (10) members appointed by the City Council. One member shall be a police officer employed by the City who shall serve in an ex officio capacity. The ex officio member may not vote and the ex officio's presence or absence shall not be counted in determining if a quorum is present. Two members shall be alternates. The alternates shall only act as a regular voting member in the absence of any regular member. D. Vacancies In Office: It shall be the duty of the staff liaison to notify the City Council promptly of any vacancies occurring in membership, and the City Council shall fill such vacancies as soon as reasonably possible for the unexpired term of the original appointment. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its passage and publication.
