HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 05.c Proclamation for National Tourism Week May 2-10, 2015 Whereas: tourism is an economic engine that helps make Lakeville a healthy community fueling retail, hospitality and service businesses with customers Whereas: travel has a positive impact on Lakeville generating $15 million in travelers spending, and employing 100 workers Whereas: traveler visits to Minnesota number 69 million annually and $13 billion in gross sales Whereas: for every $1 invested in tourism marketing, it generates $7.20 in state and local taxes, $20.40 in wages and $53 in gross sales, for every $1 invested Whereas: Minnesota’s hospitality industry produces $840 million in state sales tax, and employs 250,000 workers Whereas: the travel industry supports 15 million jobs nation-wide, and $2.1 trillion in economic output annually, with $928 billion spent directly by travelers Whereas: travelers’ spending generates U.S. tax revenues of $142 billion annually used to support essential services and programs Whereas: travel is a pillar of economic growth, creating jobs at a faster rate than other sectors Whereas: leisure travel accounts for more than 3/4th of all trips taken in the U.S. and spurs benefits to travelers’ health and wellness, creativity, cultural awareness, education, happiness, productivity and relationships Whereas: $283 billion are spent annually in the U. S. for meetings, events and incentive travel thus boosting the economy by helping companies strengthen performance, educate employees and customers, and reward accomplishments Therefore be it resolved that the City of Lakeville does hereby publicly express its appreciation to all Lakeville hospitality industry businesses and their employees for the contributions they make to our community and state; and that I Mayor of Lakeville, do hereby proclaim the week of May 2-10, 2015 to be Travel and Tourism Week in Lakeville, Minnesota. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and cause the Great Seal of the City of Lakeville Minnesota to be affixed at the City Office this Fourth day of May, Two Thousand and Fifteen. _________________________________________ Matt Little, Mayor
