Passage of this motion will comply with the Minnesota Minimum Wage Law. Overview The Minimum Wage standards require us to provide a minimum rate of $8.00 per hour on August 1, 2014, $9.00 on August 1, 2015, and $9.50 on August 1, 2016. Inflation indexing will begin January 1, 2018. On August 1, 2014, the resolution was amended to comply with the $8.00 per hour minimum rate. Staff is proposing a new resolution, effective August 1, 2015, to simplify the wage structure and more easily comply with the law in future. The new resolution includes four pay ranges and staff has identified those classifications that fall within each range. The Personnel Committee has met and is recommending approval of the new resolution. Primary Issues to Consider • How will this change impact the 2015 budget? Staff submits their budgets using average labor costs because of the annual turnover. Therefore the specific impact of this change is unknown but presumed to be less than $10,000 in 2015.
