HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-08-15 CITY OF LAKEVILLE PARKS, RECREATION & NATURAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES July 8, 2015 Chair Swan called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the Lake Marion Conference Room at City Hall. Members Present: Lori Bovitz, Tom Goodwin, Judy Hayes, Jeanne Peterson, Bob Swan Members Absent: Scott Kelly, Howard Lovelace Staff Present: Parks & Recreation Director Brett Altergott, Recording Secretary Tamara Wallace 2. Approval of June 17 minutes Judy Hayes clarified that Scott Kelly abstained from the appointment of the Lakeville Active Adults Committee as he was not present during the interview process. 3. Citizen comments There were no citizen comments. 4. Staff report There will be a neighborhood meeting on August 12 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at the Heritage Center to discuss and answer questions regarding Summerlyn Park. The Fourth of July fireworks were a success – staff did a wonderful job coordinating, the new band was well received, and attendance for the event was outstanding. Pan-O-Prog Events: The KayBiRu Kids Triathlon and Orchestra in the Park were both held on Tuesday, July 7, each were well attended. The North Creek Greenway project is proceeding forward as negotiations with the landowner are finalizing, and WSB continues to work with the plans and alignment. 5. Identify Destination Parks: Overview of Current Parks System Working with the GIS department, staff put together a map that outlined the parks system breaking each neighborhood park down by service area. In addition the map indicated the number of school age children in each area . The purpose of this discussion was to begin looking at which parks are potentially underutilized, identifying amenities currently present or that can be brought in to create destination parks, the proximity of parks to one another, park age, and use of the parks by youth athletic associations. Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources Committee Meeting Minutes, July 8, 2015 Page 2 Over the next couple months, the committee intends to visit each park to get a clear understanding of its current amenities, equipment, and maintenance and community needs. In preparation for this, the committee members asked clarifying questions about where specific parks were located, surrounding traffic tendencies, and road/ sidewalk access. The committee also requested the need for copies of the map to indicate personal thoughts and notes, the current playground replacement schedule, a park vandalism report, and a rating system so all the parks are graded consistently. 6. Other Business None 7. Announcements Pan-o-Prog events are going on all week; make sure to bring your family and friends out to enjoy some of the many festivities taking place. 8.
