outstanding.

5. Identify Destination Parks: Overview of Current Parks System
Working with the GIS department, staff put together a map that outlined the parks
system breaking each neighborhood park down by service area. In addition the
map indicated the number of school age children in each area . The purpose of this
discussion was to begin looking at which parks are potentially underutilized,
identifying amenities currently present or that can be brought in to create
destination parks, the proximity of parks to one another, park age, and use of the
parks by youth athletic associations.

Over the next couple months, the committee intends to visit each park to get a clear
understanding of its current amenities, equipment, and maintenance and
community needs. In preparation for this, the committee members asked clarifying
questions about where specific parks were located, surrounding traffic tendencies,
and road/ sidewalk access. The committee also requested the need for copies of
the map to indicate personal thoughts and notes, the current playground
replacement schedule, a park vandalism report, and a rating system so all the parks
are graded consistently.
