HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 03.dCity of Lakeville Finance Department Memorandum To: Mayor and Council From: Justin Miller, City Administrator Jerilyn Erickson, Finance Director Date: July 27, 2015 Subject: Role of Finance Committee The Finance Committee was established in May, 2011. Resolution 11-46 is attached. In recent years, the committee has reviewed and offered comments on fiscal policies, budget, public information initiatives, etc. The Finance Committee most recently met on June 22, 2015. Bill Lauer (MMKR) presented the 2014 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and staff presented the first quarter 2015 financial report. The committee noted that they would like to discuss their role and revisit the resolution that established the committee. They would like to make more contributions even though they see that the City is being well run. Some topics they would like to visit are street reconstruction costs, Tax Increment Financing, cable TV fees, fourth liquor store, parks and their associated costs. These topics might have more policy implications than those the committee has reviewed in the past. Prior to that meeting, the Finance Committee had met on November 13, 2014 to receive a summary of City Council actions and to discuss the third quarter 2014 financial report. During their June 2015 meeting, the committee also discussed their meeting schedule and the need (or lack thereof) of monthly meetings. Council Direction Staff is seeking direction regarding the role of the Finance Committee and whether more public policy related items should be vetted through this committee.
