CITY CODE AMENDMENT RELATED TO PARKING
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to Amend Title 6, Chapter 1, of
the city code.
Passage of this motion will result in making it against ordinance to park in a city owned
parking lot for a period of longer than 48 continuous hours.
Overview
Parking duration in city lots is not currently regulated. Abandon cars and storage in city lots
has become an issue. Including city owned lots in the 48 hour provision currently in place for
city streets and alleys will assist in keeping lots free of abandon vehicles.
Staff recommendation is to approve this amendment to maintain a high quality and quantity
of parking, primarily in the downtown area.
Primary Issues to Consider
• Lots will not be included in the winter parking ban but residents using the lots for
parking will have to move cars every 48 hours.
• New businesses in the downtown area may need additional parking currently
occupied by abandon or stored vehicles.
Supporting Information
• Amended ordinance as prepared by city attorney
