APPROVAL OF THE INSTALLATION OF LAKEVILLE ROTARY CLUB AND LAKEVILLE
LIONS CLUB SIGNAGE ON CITY ENTRY SIGNS
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve the installation of
Lakeville Rotary Club and Lakeville Lions Club signage on City entry signs.
Overview
The City maintains 20 entry signs along County and City roadways. Of those, 16 are along
County roadways, while only four are along City roadways. Many communities allow the display
of civic organization signs at these locations.
In the past, some of Lakeville’s civic organizations have expressed an interest in installing their
signage along with our entry signs. However, only recently has Dakota County provided some
flexibility with their ROW/Sign policy to make this possible. The County will now allow up to
four civic organization signs in conjunction with City entry signs along County roadways.
With this recent change, both the Lakeville Rotary Club and Lakeville Lions Club have formally
requested that the City install their signage at seven key locations along County roadways
(identified by City staff). Dakota County has approved this plan and each club would be
responsible for the purchase and future replacement of the signs. The City will install the signs
for each club and will regulate the sign size and type.
There will also be space for up to two additional civic organization signs at these locations in the
future if the City receives additional requests.
Primary Issues to Consider
• Does the City want to allow civic organization signs along roadways? When regulated, this is
a very common practice all over the State and provides an opportunity for the civic
organizations to inform residents and visitors that they have a presence in the community.
Supporting Information
• A map identifying proposed sign locations and letters from the Lakeville Rotary Club and
Lakeville Lions Club officially requesting their signage is placed at specific City entry points.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your efforts in getting Lakeville Rotary Club and Lakeville Lions Club signs at
seven key locations along transportation corridors entering the City of Lakeville.
Consider this e-mail as our Club’s official request to install these seven signs.
Our Lions Club understands that our club will be responsible for the initial purchase
and replacement costs of the signs should they become damaged or worn.
The signs will comply with City and County guidelines/criteria. (i.e. size, color, shape)
If you need additional information, please contact me.
Thanks,
