HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 05 September 19, 2016 Item No. PROCLAMATION DECLARING OCTOBER 2-8, 2016 AS MANUFACTURERS WEEK IN LAKEVILLE Proposed Action Staff recommends approval of the attached proclamation declaring the week of October 2-8, 2016 to be observed as Manufacturers Week in the City of Lakeville. Overview This will be the 23rd Annual Manufacturers Week in the City of Lakeville which is part of a state- wide effort to recognize the contributions manufacturers make to our economy including jobs, tax base, and community involvement. A copy of the proclamation will be provided to all industrial businesses in Lakeville. These businesses have also been invited to the Lakeville Manufacturers Appreciation reception to be held on Tuesday, October 4th at the Lakeville Holiday Inn & Suites. This year’s event is again sponsored by Dakota Electric Association, Frontier Communications, Minnesota Energy Resources and Xcel Energy and the Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau. It represents one in seven jobs and has the largest total payroll of any business sector; and Whereas: Manufacturing provides high skill, high wage jobs which significantly contribute to Minnesota’s high standard of living and economic vitality; and Whereas: Minnesota has more than 311,800 manufacturing jobs statewide or 13 percent of all private-sector jobs; and Whereas: Manufacturing contributes $44 billion to the state economy and represents 16 percent of Minnesota’s gross domestic product; and Whereas: Each manufacturing job supports another two jobs elsewhere in the economy through supplier purchases and employee spending. In all, manufacturing accounts for nearly 805,000 jobs or 30 percent of all jobs in Minnesota; and Whereas: Manufacturing is one of the largest employment sectors in Lakeville and accounts for more than 3,100 jobs in our community, NOW THEREFORE, the Lakeville City Council does hereby proclaim that the week of October 2-8, 2016 shall be observed as: Manufacturers Week in the City of Lakeville Proclaimed this 19th day of September, Two Thousand and Sixteen. __________________________ Mayor Matt Little
