A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING DAKOTA COUNTY-WIDE ENGAGEMENT ON
TRANSPORTATION AND TRANSIT PLANNING
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve a resolution
supporting Dakota County-wide engagement on transportation and transit planning.
Overview
Recently Dakota County elected to withdraw from the Counties Transit Improvement Board
(CTIB), effective January 1, 2019. This action will result in Dakota County projects not being
eligible for CTIB funding. Dakota County will have the option, under current state statute, to
replace or possibly increase the sales tax being dedicated to CTIB and dedicate it to transit
and transportation projects within Dakota County.
Cities in Dakota County have a vested interest in how this funding decision is implemented,
and therefore most cities have been approving resolutions encouraging the county to include
city representatives in the decision making process for how this funding is set and allocated.
Primary Issues to Consider
• Does the City of Lakeville want to be involved in the decision making process of
Dakota County in regards to future transit and transportation planning?
