The low bidder is Fitzgerald Excavating & Trucking Inc. at $197,860.00. The Engineer’s estimate for this project is $227,690.00. There are no math errors in the bid, and the unit prices are within an acceptable range. Wenck does not have experience working with Fitzgerald Excavating & Trucking Inc. so we checked with one of the listed references that we work directly with, the City of Woodbury engineer. The City of Woodbury has worked with the contractor and continues to work with them on pond maintenance/clean out projects. The City of Woodbury did not express concern about the Contractor’s ability to complete the work as we described and commented that they know the Contractor does work on streams for the MN DNR. The contractor did list MN DNR contacts and projects as three additional references. Based on the feedback, Wenck does not have any reason to believe Contractor is not capable of completing this project as designed and specified. We recommend that the City of Lakeville award Fitzgerald Excavating & Trucking Inc. the 205th Street Channel Reconstruction Project, City Project No. 16-15. Sincerely, Ed Matthiesen, P.E.
