The mission of the Lakeville Department is: “The Lakeville Fire Department is dedicated to serving the community
through the protection of lives and property by providing public safety education and professional emergency
response.” Since 1884 the Lakeville Fire Department has been working towards the successful accomplishment of
this mission. The purpose of this grant request is to additional access to a simple, but important tool.
The cost of the grant is the cost of purchasing CPR manikins that includes 15 adult/child and 5 infant manikins,
$1550.00
In our mission statement it clearly states that we provide public education. One of those avenues that we do this is
by providing CPR training to all types of groups. We have taught CPR to high school athletic teams, church groups,
youth groups, city staff and businesses within the city. In 2016 according to the American Heart Association there
more than 350,000 cardiac arrests and a bystander initiated CPR in 46% of those arrests. The number of arrests has
decreased in the past 3 years but the number of bystanders doing CPR and survival rate has increased,
demonstrating the need that we continue to teach CPR to our community.
Our current manikins were purchased through the Heart Restart program and those manikins are in need of
replacement. These manikins are shared amongst the Heart Restart Program, police and fire departments. We
have trained and continue to train many bystanders in CPR. The replacement of these manikins will allow us to
continue to provide this training to any and all groups that request it.
