The following is the Director’s Report for May, 2017
Building Permit Report
The City has issued building permits with a total valuation of $68,105,912 through April. This
compares to a total valuation of $41,145,404 for building permits issued through April of
2016.
The City issued commercial and industrial permits with a total valuation of $5,148,000
through April compared to a total valuation of $4,361,000 during the same period in 2016.
The City has issued permits for 133 single family homes through April with a total valuation of
$42,264,000. This compares to 89 single family home permits through April of 2016 with a
total valuation of $27,834,000. The City also issued permits for 27 townhome units through
April with a total valuation of $5,667,000. This compares to 18 townhome permits issued
through April of 2016 with a total valuation of $4,268,000. Through April, the City has issued
the highest number of residential permits in the metro area according to the Builders
Association of Twin Cities.
Launch Properties Project
The City Council approved a final plat and a tax increment financing agreement for the Launch
Properties office warehouse project to be constructed east of Cedar Avenue across from the
Airlake Airport. This project will result in the construction of a 286,000 square foot warehouse
/ office building valued at $11.7 million. Menasha Packaging has agreed to lease 150,000 of
this building.

New Economic Development Specialist Hired
An offer of employment was made and accepted by Kati Bachmayer to be the next Economic
Development Specialist. Kati has spent the past two years working for the Aberdeen SD
Development Corporation and prior to that worked in the Aberdeen regional office of former
U.S. Senator Tim Johnson. Kati will bring extensive experience in dealing with workforce issues
as well as extensive public communication experience involving public speaking, newsletter
preparation, and social media. She will start in her position here in Lakeville on June 12th.
Update on Co. Rd. 50 Project
On Monday of this week, the City Council approved the proposed land exchanges involving
the White Funeral Home and Lakeville Family Dental properties. In both cases, land is being
acquired along the front and rear of these properties to allow for the widening of Co. Rd. 50
and the construction of a backage road adjacent to the rear of these lots. Additional land is
being conveyed to both businesses to provide for the construction of replacement parking that
is being lost as a result of the proposed road improvements. This project is currently out for
bids. Construction is expected to begin after July 4th.
Development Update
The demolition of the former Burger King restaurant building that was acquired in January of
this year was substantially completed this week. This lot will be retained by the City for future
upgrades to the I-35 – Co. Rd. 50 Interchange.
Construction has begun on the following projects in the past several weeks:
• Taco Bell to be located between HyVee and the new PetSmart
• Christian Brothers Automotive east of the Crossroads Shopping Center
• Agape Mechanical building on Humboldt Court adjacent to Co. Rd. 70
• Avonlea Village Green Apartments adjacent to the Park and Ride on Cedar Avenue
• The New McDonald Eye Care Building on Kenwood Trail
• Caribou/ Einstein Bagel on Kenwood Trail near Culvers and Advanced Auto
• Heritage Shopping Center is constructing a new private road connection from Teresa’s
to Co. Rd. 50
