ACCEPTING DONATION OF MULTI-PURPOSE TRAILER
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to accept a donation of six bags
packed with children’s books from Books to the Rescue.
Overview
Books to the Rescue, an outreach program designed to promote goodwill and strengthen ties
between the community and law enforcement, has provided the Lakeville Police Department
with six refillable duffle bags packed of children’s books, valued at $1500. The intent of the
program is to help children feel comfortable with the police in crisis situations.
Primary Issues to Consider
• Gifts and donations require approval of City Council.
• The Police Department appreciates the support of our community and thanks Books to
the Rescue for their support.

RESOLUTION NO. ____
RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATION
WHEREAS, Books to the Rescue, an outreach care program, has offered to donate six refillable
duffle bags packed with children’s books with a value of $1500 to the Lakeville Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 465.03 requires that all gifts and donations of real or personal
property be accepted only with the adoption of a resolution of the governing body.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lakeville accepts
the donation’s value of $1500 from Books to the Rescue; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Lakeville sincerely thanks Books to the Rescue
for its generous donation.
