APPROVAL OF A PROPOSAL FROM FERGUSON WATERWORKS FOR THE
PURCHASE OF COMMERCIAL WATER METERS
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve a proposal from
Ferguson Waterworks for the purchase of commercial water meters.
Overview
The City provides metered water service to each of the mobile home parks in Lakeville.
Water is then distributed within the park on a private water system. Those meters need
replacement at the end of their service life to ensure accurate recording of water used.
Two meters need to be replaced at the North Creek mobile home park. The Utilities
Division requested a proposal from Ferguson Waterworks to match water meters already
used within the system. As was noted during the bid process for residential water meters,
Ferguson Waterworks is the only area distributer for these meters. The water meters
being purchased are compatible with and will not disrupt the City’s existing billing
process. All commercial water meters installed by the City allow drive-by meter reading
to limit access to the property and make data collection easier.
Ferguson Waterworks provided a proposal for two six-inch stainless-steel water meters
with associated components for a cost of $24,448.23. These meters meet the needs of
the City for a commercial application. Staff recommends approval of the proposal.
Primary Issues to Consider
• Are the meters compatible with the existing system? Yes, the water meters being
purchased are the same style meters, with the addition of an integrated radio, that
we have purchased for several years and are currently installed in two other mobile
home parks.
