The purpose of this grant request is to provide funding to purchase a drone to be used in a multitude purposes. The cost of the grant is for one DJI Inspire 1 V2 drone that will have both a regular camera and a thermal camera. The cost of the grant is $9,861.06. The grant will purchase a drone kit. (See attached quotes for listing of all items) The use of drones has increased dramatically in public safety. We started investigating the capabilities of a drone and how it could benefit our department after a recent incident at the mountain bike course. The uses of the drone are only limited by what one could think of. Some of the examples we have put together are, search for a missing person, water/ice rescue incidents, preplanning of buildings, birds eye view of an incident. Adding a thermal camera only increases the uses of the drone and would improve its function during such incidents like a search for missing person. The drone would be maintained and operated by fire department personnel but would be a shared resource for our police department and neighboring agencies that would request it. The one item that is missing from the grant is a tethered system for this drone. A grant request for this item may come at later date. Attached to the grant is a price quote from Drone Nerds, we also included other quotes from other vendors. We are also in the process of obtaining a Certificate of Authorization (C.O.A.) from the F.A.A.
