Overview On April 12, 2018, the Mayor and City Council awarded a contract to McNamara Contracting for 2018 Miscellaneous Roadway Repairs and Overlays which included the reconstruction of the Juno Trailway. The City has contracted with Xcel Energy for street and trail lighting in the past. The current contract for the lighting along the Juno Trailway is near the end of its term. The City worked with Xcel Energy to evaluate the current 23-year-old lighting system and determined the system should be replaced due to the current condition of the poles and fixtures. The new lighting system will consist of 17 fiberglass light poles and fixtures and new underground wiring within a conduit at a cost of $26,792.00. Xcel Energy will be responsible for maintaining the entire system and the City will incur a monthly fee for the electricity and maintenance. Considering the Juno Trailway is a portion of the designated Lake Marion Regional Greenway, City staff is currently working with Dakota County staff on the development of a Joint Powers Agreement whereby both parties would split the cost of the trail reconstruction, trail lighting and the installation of a Rapid Flasher Beacon on 205th Street by the Juno Trailway trailhead. Primary Issues to Consider • The existing trail lights are coming to the end of their useful life and are in need of replacement.
