PROCLAMATION DECLARING OCTOBER 1-7, 2018
AS MANUFACTURERS WEEK IN LAKEVILLE
Proposed Action
Staff recommends approval of the attached proclamation declaring the week of October 1-7, 2018
to be observed as Manufacturers Week in the City of Lakeville.
Overview
This will be the 25th Annual Manufacturers Week in the City of Lakeville, which is part of a state-
wide effort to recognize the contributions manufacturers make to our economy including jobs,
tax base, and community involvement.
A copy of the proclamation will be provided to all industrial businesses in Lakeville. These
businesses have also been invited to the Lakeville Manufacturers Appreciation Reception to be
held on Tuesday, October 2nd at Brackett’s Crossing Country Club. The Workforce Development
Panel Discussion will take place prior to the reception for its second year. The panelists will share
information about workforce development challenges and solutions, and are representing
Lakeville Area Public Schools, Enterprise Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Labor
and Industry.
This year’s event is sponsored by Dakota Electric Association, Minnesota Energy Resources, Xcel
Energy and the Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau.

2018 Manufacturers Week
Whereas: Manufacturing is a dynamic and robust industry, crucial to the health and strength
of Minnesota’s diverse economy; and
Whereas: The manufacturing industry contributed $49.2 billion to Minnesota’s economy
in 2017, and at 16 percent, is the largest sector contributing to the state’s private
gross domestic product; and
Whereas: In 2017, workers took home $21 billion in wages from Minnesota manufacturing
jobs, the second-highest amount among the state’s business sectors; and
Whereas: Manufactured exports brought $19 billion into the Minnesota economy in 2017;
and
Whereas: Manufacturing provides 319,000 highly skilled, well-paying jobs, which
significantly contribute to Minnesota’s high standard of living and
economic vitality; and
Whereas: Manufacturing in Minnesota pays an average annual wage of $65,728, which is 16
percent higher than the state’s overall average wage.
Whereas: Manufacturing and related businesses are one of the largest employment sectors in
Lakeville and account for approximately 3,500 jobs in our community,
NOW THEREFORE, the Lakeville City Council does hereby proclaim that the week of
October 1-7, 2018 shall be observed as:
Manufacturers Week in the City of Lakeville
