Spotlight on Business
FedEx Freight
Overview
The Spotlight on Business program is designed to recognize new and existing commercial and
industrial businesses in the Lakeville community. The program was created to inform the community
about Lakeville’s thriving business climate and emphasize the important tax and employment benefits
that business and industry provide to the City.
FedEx Freight in Lakeville moved to the community in June 2016. The 68,000 square-foot building is
located at 9331 217th Street W, at the corner of County Road 70 and Dodd Boulevard. The FedEx
Freight division, part of the FedEx Corporation brand family, has approximately 45,000 team members
worldwide, moves around 105,000 shipments a day, uses around 25,000 motorized vehicles, and have
approximately 370 service centers with an annual revenue of $6.8 billion.
FedEx Freight in Lakeville serves as the district office for the company’s new Minneapolis district and
currently has 92 dock doors with room to expand. FedEx Freight in Lakeville has been experiencing
10% growth year over year and “business is booming.” Lakeville’s FedEx Freight location has seen
remarkable growth since moving to the city, going from 114 employees in 2016 up to about 200
employees in 2018. Hank Felczak, Service Center Manager, credits their success in part to Lakeville’s
ideal location with easy access to the interstate system and the area’s strong workforce.
Safety is FedEx Freight’s number one priority. All staff members receive extensive safety training to
keep themselves safe as well as the motoring public. The company offers a driver training program that
provides new drivers with one-on-one instructor-led training to pass their Commercial Driver License
test and successfully receive their additional driver endorsements. FedEx Freight offers recurring
education for drivers, dock workers, and other staff member to keep safety procedures top of mind and
up-to-date. In addition, the company’s trucks are equipped with advanced technology to help prevent
accidents.
Based on current tax capacity rates, FedEx Freight property will contribute $325,000 in property taxes
going to the City, County, and ISD 194 in 2018. Hank Felczak and Cory Herrman, Managing Director
will be present to share additional information with the City Council.
