Memorandum
To: Mayor and City Council
Justin Miller, City Administrator
From: John Hennen, Parks & Recreation Director
Date: November 20, 2018
Subject: East Community Park Phase II and Avonlea Community Playfield Master Plans
BACKGROUND
At the June 25th City Council Work Session, the Mayor and City Council discussed a potential
Park Bond Referendum timeline and tax impact analysis to cover costs associated with the
expansion of Antlers Park, the development of Avonlea Community Playfield, East Community
Park Phase II and the construction of a sports dome. At that meeting, the Mayor and City
Council directed Staff to take the steps to complete a Master Plan for East Community Park
Phase II and Avonlea Community Playfield to determine an estimated cost to develop each of
the park projects.
EAST COMMUNITY PARK PHASE II MASTER PLAN
On August 22, 2018 Staff and representatives of WSB and Associates held a neighborhood
meeting at the Spirit of Brandtjen barn to receive feedback from residents in the area regarding
their thoughts and ideas on what they would like to see as part of the second phase of East
Community Park.
On September 19, the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Committee (PRNRC) reviewed
two park concepts for the park providing Staff feedback on the concepts that were presented.
From October 1 – 14, residents were invited to participate in an online survey regarding the
two concepts. A total of 363 individuals participated in the survey which provided feedback to
Staff and the consultant on the proposed concepts.
As a result of the aforementioned review process which includes the citizen survey, the
attached proposed Master Plan was developed and presented to the PRNRC on November 7.
At that meeting, the PRNRC recommended approval of the proposed Master Plan as presented.
I:\CC Drafts\Work Session Materials\1.docx
At the work session, Staff and the consultant will present the plan to the Mayor and City Council
and highlight the amenities proposed for the project which includes items such as: a trailhead
and shelter, canoe/kayak boarding docks and racks, stone overlook areas, shoreline and fishing
pier opportunities, prairie pollination garden areas, trails and trail lighting along with a 40-car
parking stall. The cost of East Community Park Phase II as proposed is estimated to be
$2,000,000.
In addition to the proposed Master Plan, the estimated cost breakdown for the project and
survey results are also included.
AVONLEA COMMUNITY PLAYFIELD MASTER PLAN
On August 9, 2018 Staff and Tim Wold of SRF Consulting Group met with representatives of the
athletic associations to review a number of preliminary concepts for the Avonlea Community
Playfield. At this meeting, Staff and the consultant received feedback from the athletic
associations that were present regarding their thoughts and ideas on the concepts that were
presented.
On September 5, the PRNRC reviewed the concepts of the community playfield providing Staff
feedback as well.
From August 29 – September 14 residents were also invited to participate in a survey regarding
two Avonlea Community Playfield concepts. A total of 1,015 individuals participated in the
survey. These survey results are also included in your packet.
As a result of the above-mentioned review process along with the citizen survey, two preferred
concepts and graphic amenity boards were developed which are included in your packet
material. The PRNRC reviewed the two preferred concepts at their October 17 meeting and
recommended approval. As you will note, the major difference between the two concepts is
that Concept A has a dome facility and Concept B does not, but Concept B does have one
athletic deck with artificial turf.
The other amenities in both plans are identical and includes items such as: eight pickleball
courts, grass multi-purpose fields, a baseball field with grandstand seating, lighting, dugouts
and bullpen areas, outdoor fitness workout area, challenge course and play area to name a few.
The estimated cost to construct Concept A is $17,600,000 and estimated cost for Concept B is
$11,900,000.
Staff and the consultant will be presenting the plans and estimated costs to the Mayor and City
Council at the Work Session meeting.
ANTLERS PARK MASTER PLAN
The Mayor and City Council reviewed the attached Antlers Park Master Plan in October of 2017
and revisited the Antlers Park Master Plan implementation process in May of 2018.

EAST COMMUNITY PARK SURVEY RESULTS
Are there other amenities you would like to see included at East Community Park Phase II or do you have any other additional comments or feedback regarding the concepts?
Love the bocce ball option! If there is a LAX or soccer field, the dead end parking would be a pain to deal with at practice time
I am very interested in the dog park and more natural play areas for kids. I also loved the idea of the mowed lawn paths and nature paths. Not sure if there needs to be multiple access points for canoes etc,
but one in addition to the fishing docks is great.
Love the incorporation of natural prairie/pollinator areas too.
Great job everyone! Very exciting!
Lighting along the trail surrounding the lake to the east of the boardwalk/bridge.
1 acre is not enough space for a dog park as it would be to confined and may cause issues with fights, etc. would like to see more green space for kids to play or where we can walk dogs and having a nice
sport field would be nice for city and neighborhood.
1 acre for a dog park is to small. This will cause many dog fights. Playground equipment for kids would be a better use of space. The supposed playground by the townhouses that are not part of Spirit are to
far from our homes for the neighborhood kids to run over and use.
No dog park. Playground for kids would make more sense. Small area for dogs lead to dog fights!!
I would like to see the natural trails through the wooded area be paved instead of natural. All the other trails are paved and make it nice for walking with strollers in the family oriented community. I believe
the paved trails will also serve to better keep wildlife like coyotes away whereas the natural trails may encourage those animals making it more dangerous for residents. Please pave the trails!!!!
I walk by the open lawn space everyday and I rarely see it used. When it is being used, it's mostly by people giving their dogs a run. Is there a reason that the dog park couldn't take up more of the general
lawn space? With the only other dog park in the area being Dakota woods, I have a feeling that a dog park in this location will be used by everyone over Dakota Woods. To avoid congestion, I would suggest
making it larger and lowering the amount of open lawn space. I'm just afraid that you'll end up with a situation where it will be overrun by too many dogs/people for the size and just cause more issues than
not having a dog park there at all. I like the concept of the dog park, but don't like it being limited to just one acre of such a huge space.
To be honest, I would prefer that huge space to be used for anything (dog park, organized sports fields, wilderness area) vs left as an informal space. I feel that as an informal space right now, it's just going
to waste.
Otherwise, I like both concepts and welcome the new amenities.
Thank you for detailing out the differences! There are so many slight differences I would have never even noticed. I would have liked a 3rd option of "no preferences as some of the things made no
difference to me and I feel like having to choose might skew your results slightly.
The steel equipment used at other parks is not user friendly and is more painful. Step boxes or pull up bars is fine, or the exercise gliders.
Please please please a dog park
A dog run would be amazing!
Playground, amphitheater, excess parking and park lighting
My biggest point of feedback is that if there is a fishing pier on the north/east end of the lake, there is little or no space for parking. I think it would raise an issue if people tried to park on the boulevard
(eagleview) or if they park on the residential streets, there is really a long walk around to get to the pier (or stones) and it would be very tempting for others to trespass through yards to get to the fishing
spots. Already, there are people who park on eagleview to ice fish or just to walk the trails and they park too close to where the grassy median begins and it is hazardous. My preference would be to have
the fishing pier on the west side of the lake, near the existing park/playground.
I like the canoe/kayak boarding options. i would take advantage of that.
A community garden space would be nice....
Would love to see all new trails paved for ease of use with strollers, bikes. Thanks!!
Very excited about a natural play area
What ever happens cutting down much of the brush and weeds down on the residential side would be appreciated.
Regardless of what plan is adopted, please include in the list of improvements clearing and cleaning up the residential side of the lakeshore and lake. Removing all the scrub trees and brush would greatly
improve the beauty of the walking path.
Our home backs up to this park area. We would like to preserve the privacy and natural open area as much as possible. It is important that we minimize the visible parking lot to the back of our homes. We
appreciate your consideration and efforts to all nearby homeowners.
Dog park run area is important !
Baby changing stations in the bathrooms.
A natural amphitheater would be possible near the parking lot on the natural prairie hill is today. Setup a small permanent stage and residents would bring lawn chairs, no permanent lights would be
necessary for summer evening concerts. A Sunday live music series in the park sponsored by local businesses such as HyVee would be a unique park experience for this end of Lakeville. Another option with
so much open space is an outdoor hockey rink or warming house for use with the ice on the lake.
A playground structure would be great. A splash pad option could be fun as well.
Splash-pad and dog washing station would be nice. Dog waste bag stations.
Could the roughly mowed trail on the North end of park through the woods be wood chipped or improved short of black topped? Could a selection of mature trees, that represent those found w/I the park
be noted with a plastic tag or sign that identifies the tree with its characteristics ie type, life span, uses for both animals and humans, habitat, etc Would be helpful to many if the fish that are to be found
w/I East lake are identified...we've caught perch, largemouth bass, sunfish, crappie, carp, sucker, and bullheads. Would it be possible to maintain an ice rink on lake or w/I open park space during the mid
Dec to mid Feb time frame? You need more lights on trail throughout park and it appears you're almost ready to install lights on the Southeastern and Northeastern side of park and if not, they're needed
for safety purposes. There are often bald eagles and less frequently Ospreys in the park area and it would be great to have a free or pay[ ie quarter] binoculars permanently placed w/I the park on one of the
overlook sites. I didn't notice, but was a drinking fountain or fountains w/I the plan? Thanks, love being involved in the planning stage, keep up the good work and please continue to keep us all informed as
you move forward on what's shaping up to be a wonderful park for all....Terry Dow
A larger dog park with an indoor pet wash would be awesome. Public warming house with rental and lake access for skating.
We'd really like a Dog Park, please.
I would like to see a place for my chicken. Thank you.
I would love to see both the natural play areas and the workout stations.
As you can see I like portions of both. Having year round rest rooms or port a potties that are available 24
hrs are a must.
I like the idea of a dog park AND fields for lacrosse/soccer. I think the growing communities would benefit from both of those options over prairie. Potentially put the dog park up into the natural wooded
area to allow for the sports fields.
Is it possible to instal an emergency call button near the lake.
Water fountain or source of water to refill water bottles, etc. Bathrooms would be awesome, but I understand the high cost and upkeep.
Water fountains, dog waste bag dispensers and more trash cans along the trail.
Definitely like the idea of a small fenced in dog area, kids have plenty of places to play, I think it's time we add in a little something for the dogs.
Parking lot too large. Should be trimmed to 40 maximum. Too many spaces will cause issues with neighborhood traffic and getting out to pilot is already an issue! No dog park!!
PLEASE no natural trails!!!! They are not family friendly for those with strollers, wheelchairs, or for young ones on bikes/skates. The makeup of the surrounding neighborhood is predominantly families-
please please please pave the pathways to allow all families to use and enjoy them.
Tether Ball
More garbage cans along walking trails!!! There are way way to few!
New trails to be paved would be nice through the wooded area.
I live on Envoy Way. And I am very excited for this project to be completed!
A warming house for possible x-country skiiers in Winters
Concept 1 includes more trails and loops, which provides options for walking and using the area. Having the Canoe/Kayak racks on the residential side feels like it's a benefit for those few residents. Are the
canoes there available for anyone to rent? If so, that may be a long walk from the parking lot to access the equipment.
Would really enjoy having a fenced dog park!!
Thank you for allowing us to voice our preferences and give suggestions. My family and I highly suggest that the parking lot be reduced. There is no need for 65 spaces, especially since there's another
parking lot just south off Pilot Knob. With so many young kids out and about in the neighborhood, I’d hate to see more cars entering/exiting. We'd like to keep this area quieter and less populated for all
residents, especially those with children and for those who live right by the open space. Thank you!
What happened to the original proposed band shelter? would have been nice to have concerts in the park during the summer.
Please make all trails paved, they will not get used or be kept up left as woods.
No DOG parks please, we have enough issues with the current people with dogs not picking up after them to have an entire area that will not be kept up as it is.
Definitely bocce ball courts!
Paved trails through wooded area and dog park area are great ideas!
add a sign telling the history of the place and maybe a couple historical photos (adjacent dairy farm). Add a couple dispensers along the trail with bags for picking up dog poo.
Overall, Concept 2 looks AMAZING! We would absolutely love a dog park run area too.
Would love to see an overpass at Falkirk, to cross over Pilot Knob and directly to the park vs having to go to 165th or 170th to cross at the light.
Would also love to see a wading pool, similar to the community pools in the Minneapolis parks system - small, free, available for the community to use in the summer time. Not just at East park, but other
parks in the community as well.
With the kayak/canoe racks will those be rentable through the city? I think that would be a great option!
This is probably a long shot but I wish there was a different path for walkers vs bikers. Given how some of the trails have steep hills and blind spots, it can be scary to be a walker. Some bikers come flying
around corners and down hills.
People use this park all year round, it would be nice if the porta potties/bathrooms were there/available longer than September each year.
Dog waste bag stations like Thompson County Park in case one forgets the bag. They also have a dog water fountain! :)
Bigger dog park to include all sizes of dogs
Number one priority: Natural Play Space!
Splash pad (only assuming one doesn't go in at Antlers or Avonlea).
I imagine this space to be the "East Side" version of Ritter Farm park. I'd like to see similar natural lands with space for informal uses and lower maintenance.
Keep as much of the current natural vegetation, trees and shrubs as possible.
Skatepark section.
Also- an equestrian trail???
Fishing space and kayak area
Frisbee golf if no official lax field. Hope the bike trail connects either way.
My family already lives this park, so I love that you're going to add more amenities to it.
Please no dog park.
Ice rink
Please make sure things are wheelchair accessible!
A walking/pedestrian bridge so the Lakeville residents living on the west side of pilot knob can safely cross over pilot knob to get to the park. Reduce the speed limit on pilot knob so pedestrians can safely
cross the street to the park.
Have you looked at Central Park in Eagan? Over where they have the Scottish Festival there is an awesome play/workout park that uses a lot of telephone poles. It's pretty awesome and fun to climb on.
Please include a Pedestrian bridge or tunnel to cross Pilot Knob Road between 165th and 170th. It's dangerous to cross the street as currently designed and adding more parking lots will add to the traffic.
There really need to be a bridge or a tunnel under or over pilot knob to access the park. Many people with families use these parks and would like to use them more but crossing Pilot Knob is dangerous.
I'm not too worried about Phase II at East Community Park. I'm more worried about the plan for 170th, between Flagstaff and Pilot Knob. Ot is one of the worst roads I've ever driven on and my wife and I
have to drive on that road every day. The very sketchy patch job that was done was a nice gesture, but it might have made it worse. Is there a long term plan to fix that road??? Or is there a form we can fill
out or another way to get reimbursed for repairs needed due to driving on that road (alignment, shocks/struts, etc)?
Tullamore residents across pilot knob would love to cross without risking our lives . How about a tunnel is installed?
Pedestrian overpass over pilot knob to falkirk
Grade the lacrosse fields so that they are flat and professional looking.
Pickle ball courts
I wish we did not have a walking trail made. We already have very little space for the natural habitat here and it just cuts into their preserve. I like things as they are. Use current parking at existing park. It is
never full.
I would love to have the wooded portion loop around with a paved trail instead of simply connecting to the neighborhood.
Like a combo of the two
There NEEDS to be an overpass from the west side of Pilot Knob (ideally from the Tullamore development entrance). It is 100% NOT safe for kids and families to cross Pilot Knob and utilize the park and
grounds. Also, the speed limit should be reduced near the park especially with North Trail Elementary just down the road. Thank you!
Like the idea of dog park and more green space.
Add a canoe/kayak boarding dock on the north end by the fishing pier. We need a place closer to the road to launch a canoe or kayak. Having to carry a canoe/kayak all the way around the lake to behind the
residential houses is not very useful to most of the population in the community.
It would be SO great if we could find a way to make crossing Pilot Knob at Falkirk to get to the park SAFER! A bridge? Crosswalk with lights? Something would be wonderful!
Otherwise I'm so excited for these improvements! It's such a wonderful park and this will make it even more wonderful!! Thank you!
We are absolutely against the dog park, as residents and homeowners in spirit we do not want the smells and what it brings...!!
We are opposed to a dog park. The smell generated from a dog park is unbearable. The wind blows from the Northwest a majority of the time and this would carry the smell over to the residential area's.
We have plenty of areas's to walk our dog's & don't need to create a park where dog's can congregate. Who will pick up the waste?
We like this area of Lakeville just as it is. We are not looking or asking for any improvements to the area. Improvements will attract more people to the area, which we do not want. Spend your money in
the heart of Lakeville where the majority of Lakeville residents can enjoy. Rosemount, Farmington & Apple Valley residents will enjoy these improvements and very few Lakeville residents, not good value
for your dollar. Take care of Lakeville residents as best you can & this is not one of them.
Remove all the carp to rebuild the panfish population.
Lakeville needs a splash pad area for kids in the summer months. More basketball courts. Maybe a bandshell for outdoor concerts
In the meantime, if I could mention here regarding East Lake park on pilot knob....I would like to suggest a walking bridge OVER pilot knob leading into the park would be very smart. With the area growing
with businesses it gets more difficult for bikes, runners, walkers and family groups to reach the park.
I would guess to say that your answer would be to go walk down to a stop and go light but for most who enjoy the beauty of walking in the park and fear the traffic that at times can be of inattentive
drivers.....this is time taken off their day at the park. I can only imagine a walkover bridge would bring all a relief and enjoyment of reaching the park.
Need to make it easier for residents to cross Pilot Knob to access the park with either a stop light or bridge. It's so dangerous for kids to cross Pilot Knob with how busy and the high speed limit.
the more space for Mn native flora and fauna the better. Let be people work around the landscape and facilitate the rejuvenation of natural prairie biome. Let's make Lakeville a standout GREEN
community! Please include proper/adequate recycling bins rather than just trash cans.
Highest of priority would be a connection point that would bypass having to cross Pilot Knob to get to this area. Currently it is the equivalent of playing frogger, which is actually quite challenging to do with
children, bikes, strollers, dogs etc. A pedestrian bridge or tunnel would be amazing and benefit all developments and users as it would connect and expand on many existing paths paths.
Another really fun feature would be a splash pad and/or pool area.
A splash pad!! We need something like this in Lakeville!! So many new young families! This would trump all the above
It would be nice if there was parking or a drive up to one of the docks. in both options it looks like someone would have to carry a kayak or a canoe 400' - 500' to get to the water.
Please, PLEASE either help to slow down Pilot Knob traffic or add pedestrian crossings. It is so difficult to get to the park space with the constant and excessively fast traffic that continues to become busier
on Pilot Knob. Even when driving, it's extremely difficult to cross from Falkirk to the park.
Thank you for the dog park and Bocce-- 2nd concept is what we had visualized
A safe way to cross pilot knob esp with strollers kids bikes etc...bridge going over? Thanks!!!
Prefer to have access thru the wooded area both directions so as to decrease traffic past homes in area. Dog park is a good idea however concern with who would patrol and maintain (cleanup) this area?
Would general lakeville/ applevalley populations be allowed in dog park or only local residents of spirit. Will Lakeville bear cost of these improvements?? Or will there be assessments to homeowners?
I love the idea of adding a dog park on the east side of Lakeville.
Keep the park as natural as possible. Favorite amenities - the nature and grass tails, as well as natural play areas and small dog park. Concerned about parking lot location. Move it closer to Pilot Knob so the
homes in that area don't overlook it. Place trees to hide the parking lot.
A crosswalk on pilot knob and falkirk trail! so neighborhoods across the street can enjoy the park safely...also lower that speed limit
Please include additional play options for small children.
Bigger dog park, up to 3 acres.
Add a geocaching option.
Kayak and canoe rental sounds great but should be close to parking lot where people would access it.
Dislike overlooks that take away the trees. I want to walk through a park to see pretty views not structures.
1 acre isn't big enough for a safe dog park.
Please keep natural trails unpaved there are lots of paved trails nice to have a dirt path for a change.
I would like to see a pedestrian crosswalk and/or stop light added at the Pilot Knob and Falkirk Trail (or 165th) intersection, allowing families safe access to East Community Park.
We would LOVE to have a dog park since there are so many dogs in the neighborhood! Thank you for asking for our input.
Especially I like the idea of a dog park.
Definitely Kayak Racks.
Please no public docks on the residential areas of the lake. Walking trails are fine but adding places to loiter is asking for trouble. Specifically when there is no way to monitor unless by the homes closest to
the docks. Put o
Great plans! Would be nice to have more dog parks and open space. Like more trails too! Thx for sharing and asking!
I would like to include 2 RV parking pads with electricity.
(1) Three concrete pads with electric for campers
(2) skateboard park
(3) monkey bars
Please do not put in a small dog park. a small space will not be enough room for the number of dogs that may use this space and could lead to fights. We have other options that are much larger. A better
use of money and space is adding some additional kids playground equipment for use by the city and neighborhood. Regarding parking, 65 spaces is too much for the location and access. We already have
issues with cars entering and leaving the neighborhood from/to Pilot. A better number of spaces would be closer to 40. This is a smaller neighborhood and we should try to avoid having so much traffic that
it could become a safety issue with the kids in the neighborhood.
So, no dog park and smaller parking lot please!!
IOther: i would like to see fountains in the ponds esp the one between East Lake Trail & East Lake Drive
A skatepark please!!!!! This is Cody who went biking with you and the mayor.
We'd like to see more trails for hiking/running/biking. We would prefer that all trails be paved.
A splash pad would be excellent.
The dog park is the most exciting possibility. I would use it often. Also, workout stations seem like a waste of space. I can’t imagine it being used.
We love inclusive play areas - spaces that are paved and include ramps and walkways throughout are ideal for our wheelchair/gait trainer-bound child.
I would like to have a skate park. I have three children that would use a skate park and the only options are all outside Lakeville.
If there is a dog park, can that be separated into a large dog and small dog park? Can you add a dog drinking fountain too.
What happened to the original East Lake Plans that were approved as part of the Spirit PUD? I remember seeing a much more elaborate park layout that what is now being proposed. The original plans
were much nicer and while they may not be the same the proposed plans should be similar. Please provide option 3 that was already approved and more closely resembles that design.
Reduce parking lot to half the size, seems excessive based on the proposed usage. Lakeville Lacrosse Association has used this field the last several years (3 out of 4) . 20 cars max park at gravel parking lot
during this time (May to August) 2 fields, means roughly 40 cars, (practice 3-4 times a week for 17 weeks = 68 days (20%) we would have the current layout roughly 2/3 full) the remaining 297 days (80%)
would mainly be empty or relatively light usage. There is also 42 parking stalls at the existing park, and on street parking is allowed on Envoy and Equestrian. Less parking would mean more open space to
be utilized.
Could the parking lot be softened a bit, add perhaps raingardens in the islands and pervious pavement to reduce runoff prior to discharge in pond and eventually the creek. As an added benefit this would
be a great learning tool for the elementary school school to learn about our lakes and ponds less then a mile away from them.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider the home owners as you implement this plan. We purchased our home without a dock for kayaks and cannot imagine looking out at that. I highly encourage you to keep the
space as natural as possible. The kayak docs and fishing located on the side of the lake where there are current homes feels like a huge disregard for those living here, when there is space on the opposite
side of the lake without homes. PLEASE take this in to consideration.
PLEASE no public use behind residential homes on East Lake!
1.) Could their be placed a handicap accessible Outhouse be placed on the north side of the park-- off of Eagleview Drive and the trail end juncture to the east. This allows for #emergency bathroom needs.
2.) Also would be appreciated 1 water fountain for humans and one lower one for animals. This area is very close to the street, so possible tap into existing water lines. 3.) Although I did not feel another
Kayak landing was needed on the Residential side of the park, I believe a 3rd (Stone) Fishing site on the Residential side would be utilized frequently. Thanks for con't to get community input, I appreciate
the ask. And yes I am willing to pay more tax dollars to provide citizens with good sustainable parks.
Comments: oppose any new grass walking path thru woods on north side such as shown in Concept 1. Oppose any type of dog park and any restroom. Favor wide open lawn area such as currently exists. In
general, favor minimal changes to existing park area so that natural areas are maintained and any development is minimal. There already exists a fully developed playground/park immediately to the west
and there really doesn't seem a need for more development. Call me at 952-431-2914 if you would like to talk to me. My address is 16330 Equestrian Trail and my backyard abuts the north edge of wooded
parkland. Thanks. Robert Milis
I submitted a response a few minutes ago and now have a couple of more comments. I am opposed to a fire pit and any other proposed developments that would encourage a "hang out" atmosphere. As
amenities are added, there is a concern that it could encourage people to hang out there in the night time hours, since parts of the park are not easy to patrol. Thanks again. Robert Milis
We live in one of the homes along East Lake directly where you are proposing to put a fishing pier and kayak station. we have discussed with all of our neighbors that live on this side of the lake and we
vehemently oppose to the pier and the kayak station on the residential side of the lake. This poses security risks as it would bring additional people behind our home who would not otherwise be there. It
also poses a safety risk for all of us in these homes who have small children, I would fear the children would not be safe to play in our own back yard. We are all also opposing the installation of lights that
are not included on your drawings. We all feel that they would take away from the natural beauty of the lake which is the reason why we bought this home on the East Lake. We love our view we were only
hoping for some clean up of the dead brush and dead trees behind our house would be cleaned up with this project so we can see more of the lake.
It would be nice if the new trails would be paved so folks with strollers are able to easily use them. Also, the parking lot size seems larger than needed.
I like the idea of keeping the natural grasses and prairie restoration
I like some of the ideas, but it would be great to keep the new park as natural as possible rather than overbuild it too much. Being able to walk through our neighborhood as peaceful as it is right now is such
a privilege and would be disappointing to lose that.
Both canoe and docking areas from Option one and two
I have concerns about a dog park being directly across the street from homes on two sides.... concerns are barking/noise; safety especially of children who play in the yards of their own homes who may
encounter random dogs; people using the dog run who do not pickup after their dogs.
Lighting and trees will need to be screening for the homes bordering the parking lot. The parking lot as depicted seems to have too many spaces (65) for the park as designed. Can that number be reduced?
Seems like a lot of water parking for the use of the park.
Love the idea of the natural pollination gardens...perhaps also some milkweed for Monarchs if they can go-exist?
As a canoe owner and Spirit resident I appreciate the inclusion of a canoe rack for East Lake. I currently have my canoe on a rack at Cobblestone Lake which has two canoe rack locations. I prefer the concept
2 with the added rack location as this would give more opportunity for canoe and kayak use. If the two location option is not possible i would suggest adding two racks at the one location. Thanks for
developing this beautiful park.

AVONLEA COMMUNITY PLAYFIELD SURVEY RESULTS
Are there other amenities you would like to see included at Avonlea Community Playfield or do you have any other additional comments or feedback regarding the concepts?
Love the sports dome idea. Lakeville needs more sports facilities.
I think the sports dome included in plan A would be a welcome and needed addition to Lakeville. I also love the ninja style challenge course and think that would be a nice amenity to offer.
Please add a splash pad at Avonlea
Just have to be sure there is enough parking if multiple events are occurring at the same time.
Really like the sports dome for year round use...we currently travel to Dundas or Savage for winter football activities. Also really like inclusion of Pickleball courts. Connecting to bike trails and natural hiking
paths would be great, too. Looks like a great plan. . . exciting!
A pool/water park like apple valley aquatic center. A dome would be nice as we have to travel for soccer to different cities that have domes (rosemount, Dundas, bursville)
Provide a trail along the south side of the athletic fields. This allows parents and spectators to more easily access the fields and additional connectivity through the park.
Bathrooms
We were told that we would be able to use the Life Time pool as well at N/C and that isn't the case. Would this be free to Lakeville residents?
Skate park and nice bathrooms!
Far more important than items like Pickleball would be some kind of Pump Track for biking and scooters.
Though it would be great to have two splash pads in Lakeville, we are in desperate need of a sports dome. Would there be a way to eliminate pickle ball court and include both splash pad and some?
Outdoor fitness equipment never gets used. Multiple parks in the metro area have it, and I’ve never seen anyone in it.
Grills and Bike racks
Lots of benches in the shade that allow you to still watch children in play areas
We don't need so many pickleball courts. I think a splash pad is very important. Years ago there was going to be a community center that was built but instead Lifetime was built. Lifetime is not an
affordable option for many families, as it was promised to be. I would like to see no cost options, such as a few splash pads around town.
The multi use concept is great and well thought out. Parking along fields works much better than the large holding lots we currently have in our parks.
Ultimately we NEED a community center in Lakeville. We need a year round facility that can accommodate our kids to play indoors both organized and pick up games. Thinking that all want or can afford to
use Lifetime is a HUGE mistake. I will not feed corporate greed so my kid can have a place to hang out with his friends.
the more play area you make, the more they will come and play. make more outside challenge courses.
ALSO make it handicapped accessible. put in a swing or two for kids in wheelchairs. put in an outside sensory landscape where people in wheelchairs can roll over it and feel different types of terrains. bikers
could also use it. don't forget to include those with special needs when you have so much space.
Miniature Golf or Golf practice area instead of one of the football/Soccer fields
Community building which can have a room for indoor gatherings.
Shade structures throughout the park area not just a pavilion.
A splash pad is an absolute must! Lakeville is really lacking in this area and it is sad that we all must travel to Apple Valley to enjoy their amazing community features. Lakeville certainly has a larger tax-base.
Why we need another ball field is beyond me! Outdoor fitness equipment - Meh!
I don't know that there is a need for an additional baseball field at this park
A bike trail running east/west to link the park with Lakeville proper without having to bike along Cedar.
Please include harness swings and make sure wheelchairs can access splash pad (if included). Maybe have one or two water wheelchairs available to check out? We know many kids who would love that!
Would love to see plenty of trees for shade for any of the outdoor games, ( King is lacking btw )
If you think you have enough parking, think again. And
offer proper lighting for lots and power to picnic areas including outlets. If able, work on parks being self-sustainable offering solar and/or wind energy concepts. thanks and good luck. look forward to it!
Outdoor rink capability should be included in Option B as well. Need to cater to the demographics and what is desired.
Musical features with play equipment
We need indoor community pools! Where is the focus on aquatics or a community center with a top clas aquatics center. Check out New Prague or eden Prarie for examples. Hugely benefitical to the
community. The number of swim clubs and growth in the area and shortages of pool space equate to revenue opportunities, swim meets over a single weekend can net 20k in revenue. Lakeville is missing
out!
I like the idea that your incorporating pickle ball courts into your plans.
The sports dome is the biggest feature I believe is needed in this community.
Running trails with nature based surroundings as much as possible
A sports dome is a much needed addition to the city. With the seasons that MN has, it is beneficial to all area sports to have an indoor facility. Currently, families are traveling all over the metro to pay to use
another cities dome.
Tennis/Badminton court, skate park
Dog park area. What would the dome be used for.
A dog park
Cross country ski trail/loop
Indoor sports dome - open play daytime hours like savage dome for winter play indoors
If no spash pad get away from Lifetime fitness and build a large city pool! Alot of citizens are wondering if there is a personal connection with someone in the city and lifetime.
Please support an artificial-turfed baseball field. Our climate is such that winters can often linger into the baseball season, making it difficult to practice and play games. A turfed field (or fields) would
enable use of the field much sooner and in less than ideal conditions, and would be heavily used among both high schools and LBA.
A community pool
When is the city park being planned for autumn meadows? We were told about it 3 years ago.
I think this is a great idea. It would be nice to have a public pool in Lakeville too
Sports dome is high priority. Would help provide a place to practice sports during the winter months!
I love the outdoor fitness equipment idea!!!
Play structures for older children. Maybe something "American Ninja" style - although not as intense obviously. We need a new dog park also!! One that's not always muddy!
Sports Dorm is a MUST. Huge revenue potential. Community Building
IM SO glad to see a splash pad included in the concept design. We need that in Lakeville since we don’t have a community pool or water park. We do need another completion pool. I hope that is in the
works! Love the idea of an outdoor hockey/skating rink. I hope you will have plenty of open skate hours.
None of my answers should count because I only filled this out to be able to comment here. We have asked over and over for our high school swimmers to be built a proper pool to practice in, only to
continually have it thrown by the way side. It's unbelievable to me. Have you ever seen what these girls have to practice in? It's embarrassing. Farmington and Prior Lake have far better facilities. We've
got North and South shoved into one tiny pool. I can't believe all this is being considered before building us a pool for our boys and girls HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS.
There is a cool merry-go-round at East Lake Elementary that is accessible for all types of kids and can offer a variety of ways to ride it. We think it’s so cool to play on! We also love those swings that are
mounted like a tire swing but you sit on a round shell and can pile in 1-6 kids. Super fun!
I would LOVE to see an INDOOR ice rink added to the sports dome (much like the HealthEast Sports Center in Woodbury)! Another ice rink is needed in the area with the Lakeville, Farmington & Rosemount
hockey associations growing by leaps & bounds. All communities are having to drive far away for ice time ie Faribault, Northfield, Woodbury.
This looks like a great start. I do think it's important to end up with something that can be utilized year round.
Bandshell
Concept a is good, and I think and would be more useful year round, I really do think Lakeville needs multiple splash pads, and or a really impressive wave pool / water park in the future.
Sand volleyball court
I would love more nature based concepts in Lakeville but don’t know this is the appropriate park for it. This high traffic area should be large/splashy and make us say wow!
I would like to see things moving away from such ‘traditional’ playgrounds and give some of our magnificent parks a personality so they are differentiated and keep us entertained.
Skate park features. Fewer pickle ball courts or no hockey rinks. There are other hockey/skating rinks all over. We have to go to other cities to scooter and skateboard.
Pool
Concept A includes a wider mix of activities and more parking, which can easily be at a shortage when there area multiple events scheduled for a site. If you want to add a splash pad to Concept A, get rid of
the Outdoor Fitness Equipment. Then I think you have the best possible plan!
We absolutely need indoor field space please. We are giving all our $ away to neighboring cities and driving miles for field time in off-season. Also, losing athletes to neighboring cities as our teams become
less desirable due to this.
Ice rink
Very excited about this space! Please include family friendly restrooms, drinking fountains, and shaded spaces!
We should have a community center with a pool for all residents to use! Also, the city is sorely lacking a pool for high school swimmers.
Plenty of shade areas (since all the trees were removed) and a cossesion stand would be amazing
I don't see a need for pickleball courts. Already have a park dedicated to that in Lakeville.
Basketball courts and tennis courts
Love the challenge course idea. Shde structure over the play area would be great - keeps the slides cooler and makes it usable during rain. Would really love Lakeville to have a community indoor fitness
center with an indoor pool/kids water play area.
I features that I would love to see is a sports dome and a second Lakeville splash pad (I love the creek theme one in Burnsville).
Open gym for winter months like savage does. For instance Monday/Wednesday open gym from 9-1 etc..
The park should be fully accessible. Including poured-in-place material under the park / playground equipment
Turf baseball field. Sports dome.
Had a skate park been discussed? How about an open lawn that can allow more free space? I’m worried all the space will be used on evenings and weekend activities that it won’t allow others to use
the space.
Off leash dog park, Ritter farm is too small, too much dirt/mud, and not that clean.
This is a great idea! Hope to see it soon. Could a pool be included with a splash pad area? Even an admission charging pool.
I think Concept A with the splash pad added in, less pickle ball courts, and a community pool with admission would be ideal! Lakeville is such a growing family community that the more splash pads/pools to
keep cool in the hot summer, the better! Restrooms are a necessity, along with a changing table for babies in the men's and women's restrooms. Thank you for your hard work on this project! The proposed
concepts look beautiful and we are so proud to be a part of the Lakeville community!
Personally, I would not use the outdoor work out equipment. With a nice Lifetime and other workout facilities, I feel like most people use the machines there. I would LOVE if you would add a dog park or
fenced-in area where dogs can run around off leash. One that does not have a pond so my dog won’t stink. I know a lot of people who would come to this convinient location! Thank you!
The ground coverage under the play equipment- Kelly park in Apple valley where the splash pad is - great floor concept
A dome is key to the project to elevate our community and keep up with the needs of our sports teams and schools based on MN climate it is critical
Concept A is a great design
A dome is absolutely needed in Lakeville.
Need security cameras and WiFi in the park. Budget to extend your fiber ring to the new park to support those amenities.
Skate Park
Inclusive play areas for young children with disabilities (playgrounds with accessible surfaces, low to ground/accessible by wheelchair play activities like instruments, play panels, etc) would be amazing.
Kings park is great, but is designed for older children.
Community garden! Fenced in dog park
I would love to see creative, themed play structures that have accessible features which wiuld also be suitable for younger children. An actual community pool with zero depth entry would also be great. I
would love to see permanent restroom building near the play equipment
A sports dome in concept B - the fields listed could be inside the dome (space). Perfection!
A dome is a brilliant idea for the community. We have winter here and it can be used all year.
Sports dome is a priority
It would be awesome for the multi purpose turf field. The dance teams would also love being able to use it for fall dance team practice. With the growing community in Lakeville I think two splash pads are a
good option. With a fun playground like north park.
I really like the idea of an indoor sports dome. Given the long winters this makes the most sense.
Lakeville needs a dome. Every other community has a dome for youth to play sports throughout the year.
Mini-golf, like Bloomington runs
Looks great
A dome is a must to maximize year round value at the site, otherwise it is unused for 6 months a year.
This community is in desperate need of a sports dome. We have some of the most competitive athletic programs in the state and are currently required to travel to Dundas, Savage, and Irish Domes for
winter training. It’s concerning to regularly ask teenagers to drive that far in winter conditions. I cannot emphasize enough how much a dome is needed in the Lakeville community.
I would love to see a community pool/water park and some basketball courts.
Please do not put a dome in this are. If a dome is necessary put it in an area where residents won’t see it. I am looking to move to this area and that is ugly. Rosemount has one and it’s just giant and
unsightly.
Splash pad idea is awesome for the kids Lakeville needs a community pool or splash pad something.
I would love to see an indoor play place- a cross between Good Times Park and the blast. We spend alot to leave our community to play indoors during the winter and on really hot/wet days.
All outdoor fields should be turf for low maintence, guaranteed Year round use. The sports dome should have a meeting space/conference room for team meetings or celebrations. More parking slots. 8
pickleball courts is too many. How about sand volleyball instead.
Anything we do must include a sports dome. Cannot stress this enough. Lakeville must have a 4-season Sports Dome.
We desperately need the sports dome in Lakeville and I am only submitting this to stress the importance of a dome and is well past due.
Sports dome!
A community pool
Can we do a dome and outside turf
It seems to make more sense to put a splash pad at Avonlea because that is not near a body of water. If you are at Antlers there is a beach available for water play.
Splash pads are perfect. Definitely at least 2 are needed in Lakeville. Someday it’d be nice to have a water park or at least another public outdoor pool (not everyone likes lake water or indoor pools with
the harsh chemical smells). And not another community pool just for a specific neighborhood. We can’t all afford beautiful new houses!
dome!
bbq grills
The sports dome is a NEED for this community. One isn't enough. EVERY OTHER COMMUNITY around us has a community center, but our city uses SCHOOL gyms for Parks and Rec activities, while the KIDS
who should have priority on these gyms suffer -- why in the world do middle schoolers have to practice until 9:30pm (when school starts at 7:20) because ADULTS have the gyms earlier?? Just plain stupid.
Lakeville is the richest community down here, and we have the worst gym facilities.
Need more indoor facilities. A dome is great, but we need more. We have the worst basketball facilities in the south metro.
willing to have more than 1 splash pad, but I believe an indoor sports dome will help a lot for inside activies in the fall and winter. This is why I picked Plan A.
Thanks for getting our input--much appreciated.
Where are the basketball courts? As a resident of Avonlea, We have many children and extremely small lots. Our HOA club house playground is worthless. PLEASE add two basketball courts. As far as input
on the Splashpad...Summerlyn already has a pool. And my guess is they will probably getting another one. We have nothing over here. If only one Splashpad is going to be put in, please put it in Avonlea
Park.
I would like to see some of A and B mixed together. Also have a community building to rent out big parties. Maybe a 1 foot deep little pool.
A smaller playground area for the younger kids.
Indoor hockey rink, doesn’t need to be heated, or full size (just inside a pole barn). Tennis courts with striping for both tennis and pickle ball (example newly constructed courts at John Glenn Middle
school). Sports dome which can be used all year round. 4 large soccer fields and one baseball diamond. Splash pad. Kids playground. No need for outdoor fitness equipment because kids will be all over
them.
Like that both plans offer skate rinks. Would be good to have trails throughout linked in a way that you could use them for exercise... like an outdoor track.
Lakeville is in desperate need of indoor training facilities - a sports dome is a NECESSITY in this community. Our sports families need this!! After driving to Dundas weekly for indoor soccer training for my kids
during the winter months, this would be such a welcome addition. It is crazy to have to travel outside our community for winter indoor training facilities. Our population of 55,000+ would support this!
More parking
I think have 8 pickle ball courts is a bit overboard. That space probably could be used more wisely.
Sand volleyball courts!!!!
I feel that the Lakeville community would GREATLY benefit from a sports dome. We travel to many surrounding communities to use theirs. It would get year round use opposed to having another splash
pad to use 3 months of the year.
Very few playgrounds are accessible. It would be great to have at least parts that are able to be interacted with from a wheelchair. Surfaces should be usable with a wheelchair (flat rubber vs wood chips),
and interactive parts should be reachable from a wheelchair.
Bathrooms are important for sports and play. Having modern bathroom amenities versus portapotties are much better and cleaner esp with kids.
A dome is a must for our community. A covered outdoor ice rink similar to Bilenberg in Woodbury would be a nice addition to plan.
It is imperative that Lakeville build a sports dome to stay competitive with surrounding communities and to provide options for growth and continued success with our athletic programs.
Lakeville really needs a done. For soccer we are constantly driving down to the Dundas Dome, which is a long drive in the winter. Lakeville families would really appreciate a Dome in town!!!
A dome is a must!
Lakeville needs a sports dome! Our town has a lot of student athletes and this would be greatly appreciated by parents!
A dome is needed in our city and should be considered in both plans.
LAkeville needs a dome!
A sports dome is needed.
Love Concept A. Especially with the growing popularity of soccer in Lakeville. The dome would be a wonderful, practical addition to our community that would get lots of use.
Walking trails/paths surrounding the entire area would be great!
It would be great to have an indoor sports complex/dome available in Lakeville so would love to see that as our family would be one to use it often. We love to go to the dome in Plymouth with grandma
and blow off steam during those winter months and as my kids get older and more involved in sports to have a space available during inclement weather or during the off season.
The sport dome will bring in revenue from sports associations and surrounding communities year long. The splash pads are great for younger kids/families but are obviously seasonal and provide no
additional revenue to offset cost.
Sports Dome!!
The dome is a MUST!
A dome in Lakeville is NECESSARY...please!!
A sports dome is a MUST for Lakeville. Both plans should include one. A failure to put a sports dome in Lakeville would be a failure of epic portions that would haunt the community for years/decades until
one is built. Please do not make the mistake of choosing another splash pad over a LONG OVERDUE indoor sport facility. Concept A all day.
I don't think I would use outdoor fitness equipment.
Will there be walking trails?
I'd like to see a sports dome.
Dome is a must given long winters
Why do we need so many pickle ball fields? Can’t we do a dome and a splash pad?
based on the overall community need for winter facilities - any new area without a dome will not allow year round utilization. The need for a dome is high and it will pay for itself within a short amount of
time.
I believe that our sports teams would benefit greatly with a dome. We currently travel to Dundas and Rosemount to train in the spring/winter. It would also bring revenue through winter tournaments.
The dome is an eyesore and completely unfair to those who live nearby that would have to look at it. Traffic would be a nightmare, not what nearby residents signed up for.
Lakeville could really use a sports dome so that we don’t have to keep using the domes in surrounding communities. It would be useful both for training and for tryouts.
A dome is a must!
A domed field is desperatekt needed in Lakeville!
It would be nice to have foot/bike bridges over Cedar/Dodd so families are not crossing busy roads.
Build two domes, North and South. This is great that the council is looking at this. This will benefit all kids in Lakeville. I have built four domes for different communities in the metro and the end result is
awesome. GO FOR IT!!!!!!
A dome is very important for winter training in Lakeville. Having to drive to neighboring cities for indoor winter facilities is time consuming and could be avoided with our own dome. Would also rather keep
our money in Lakeville versus paying for dome time in Dundas, Savage, or Rosemount, or any other city.
Indoor multi sports facility is a must!! Outdoor multipurpose fields, one should have the turf.
Indoor pickleball courts are needed in Lakeville and unclear if considered in concept A. Both concepts should include 8 pickleball courts and splashpads are missing in our city. I go to Apple Valley for
activities that would be used and enjoyed in my own community.
sports dome is most needed. We appreciate organized survey! Thanks!
A dome is a must!
A dome is a MUST for Lakeville so it includes both softball and soccer fields!!! Our city needs the dome space so we are not having to share with Dundas and Rosemount Domes! Remember King Park is
built for younger children so we don’t need a similar playground!
Hockey ice is great!
I love Concept A because of the Challenge Course but my kids would also love a closer splash pad. The net climbers seem like a huge waste of space and money. I never see kids having fun...only little ones
getting stuck and needing help down.
I used to live in San Diego (pretty constant 70 degree weather) and the outdoor stand alone equipment was rarely used...maybe fear of germs/dirt? Heat? Who knows. Seems like a waste. Splash pads are
awesome in the summer. Parks/Zips lines/swings/rock climbers would be used all the time. Would be awesome to have “older kid†parks as one of mine is turning 9 and ONLY likes Michaud park
because of the zip line, larger slides, swings and soccer fields. We don’t see the need for a “dome†as I grew up in Woodbury and never used them. Seemed to only benefit traveling sports players but
would jack taxes up for everyone ordinary.
Drop the pickle ball.
If the purpose of this is to alleviate pressure on schools to have more practice facilities it won’t come near to fulfilling that.
Need to think much bigger than this if the intent is to make this a regional draw like Blaine. Much, much bigger.
We need more retail and restaurants too.
Thanks for listening.
Our sons play soccer, baseball, and basketball. We currently travel to other communities for winter training. We would love to have a sports dome here in Lakeville and know that it would get a lot of use. I
know I would have loved to have it when the boys were small as well for a place for them to run around in the winter time. We would also be very excited about a new baseball field!
Please consider adding a skatepark in Lakeville. All the surrounding communities have them. Also, kids love Gaga pits.
We absolutely need a Spears dome in Lakeville!!
A soccer dome is necessary for the city of Lakeville.
A sports dome would be perfect for the sports in the area.
Steam room and showers.
We NEED a dome! Tired of driving to other communities when the demand and need is here.
A dome is greatly needed in Lakeville
Something similar to lebenon hills bike paths would be nice. It would attract a large variety of good healthy people over many hours of the day that would in addition help with observation in keeping the riff
raff out. A great variety of people is healthy for a park facility.
My suggestion is create a theme like the out doors theme so people can connect with it. Have it set up as something amazing and not like the rest. This will attract from all over through conversation and
become a beacon of great thought and community.
Outdoor exercise equipment is trendy and will just take money away from items that will see more use.
Great ideas everyone. We are excited to see what you decide.
Sean
Outdoor fields need to be turf to extend s son of use
I believe the indoor training space is a top priority with our winters allowing for multi season benefits. Currently we spend hours a week driving to other facilities. This would be a top priority. A community
pool outside of a fitness club would be a nice addition as well.
A domed playfield is desperately needed in lakeville for multiple activities.
Sports dome for all season use please!! Our large sport based community would benefit from having this in our own City. Long winters call for some indoor options.
We need a dome in lakeville and outdoor turf would be great too. The spring season is so rough on sports teams with the snow melting. It would be nice to use them as well as the winter.
I feel everyone in the athletic community feels that a local sports dome would be a huge return in investment. That is out #1 choice.
Dome is necessary in Lakeville to keep association rentals and fees paid by associations locally rather than dundas, rosemount, savage, etc
I would LOVE a dome! We currently drive to Dundas, rosemount, or west St. Paul to use their domes...I would love to have one close to home. I think it would get a ton of use since there are so many sports
that need space to practice during the long winter months in Minnesota!
Dome needed!
The dome is a must!
A dome is greatly needed in our community! Would love to see an outdoor hockey and pleasure rink as well!
Lakeville has long needed a dome
Connect to bike paths.
A sports dome is an absolute must in Lakeville. Soccer families have been commuting to Dundas in dangerous conditions every winter because Lakeville hasn’t provided an option. This is very exciting
that this is finally a possibility!
Please add a sports dome in Lakeville! Driving to dundas is not only dangerous, but dittacts many families from even participating in sports at all. Thank you for offering the option!
We absolutely need a sports dome in Lakeville! This cannot be over looked and would add value to many different sports programs in the Lakeville area. It would be a huge asset to our community!
I believe that concept A is a better because the sport dome or building could be rented out during the winter months to local clubs and allow the park to pay for itself. In addition you may want to consider a
small set of bleachers for one or more of the multi-purpose fields.
A Sports dome is needed in Lakeville. It is sad that other smaller communities have this feature and we do not. Lots of our revenue are going to the other cities to rent space, when Lakeville could be
receiving it.
I really feel that Lakeville needs to have a dome center that allows us to have more year round options for all sports like what other smaller communities have. Lakeville houses 2 large high schools and is
lagging behind in available seasonal training amenities.
Lakeville needs a community center, lifetime is not that for our community. A dome is a step in the right direction for kids who need additional indoor space to practice but please consider how this proposal
could perhaps be woven into a broader community center concept.
Concentrate on the dome. Our sports are lacking compared to many other communities because they are able to practice indoors and we can’t.
Would love to see a covered outdoor hockey rink!
As a resident of Lakeville, but new to the Lakeville Soccer Club from another club, I can say that Plan A is the better of the two. Not only will the Dome be beneficial for the soccer club, but as well as for the
city and the dome's rental opportunities. Looking at the difference in the two plans, Plan A proves to be the most beneficial and profitable for the city. The parking is better laid out in Plan A, as well. Thank
you for the opportunity to offer my thoughts on this project.
In plan A there is a sports dome. I would like to see it be heated and have the ability to play Pickleball indoors. 2-4 courts would be nice. Would it be possible to cover the existing planned Pickleball courts in
a dome and have the dome heated?
Having the playground and the splash pad right next to each other is ideal. Like the Round Lake splash pad in Eden Prairie.
I believe a dome would be an ideal addition to the city parks. Considering our long winter climate here, it would be a great place for our kids and adults to play and practice their skills of summer activities.
Not all are into winter sports.
Band shell
We are lacking outdoor turf fields for Lacrosse. Many communities have been sntalling these. Also, be sure to include a lot of parking!
ICE RINKS!!!!
We love every aspect of the challenge course. This would be great for getting kids outside and exercise.
The city lacks a sports dome and a city wide fitness area. While the outdoor fitness area is a start, an indoor fitness facility is also needed (similar to Eagan and Maple Grove) as not everyone can afford
Lifetime Fitness.
Outdoor fitness equipment not need, dome is important with MN weather
Sports dome is a must.
Lakeville would greatly benefit from a sports dome. We are traveling to Savage to use one currently. Thanks!
We really need a dome!
Lakeville DEFINTELY needs a sports dome!!!! I have 3 kids in sports and we drive them and spend so much money to other communities - Dundas, Rosemount, Bville. Let's keep our money in Lakeville - both
facility rental and food/drink that gets purchased on the way or during practices. Soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, etc can all benefit from a dome in Lakeville. We need to get this done. I don't care
where it is as long as there is one in Lakeville ASAP!
A dome in Lakeville is a must to keep families here and attract new families where athletics are important.
Lakeville needs more hockey rinks indoor and outdoor. A sports dome as the city is losing money as teams are paying to practice in other cities. The planning department is not doing their job effectively as
it seems like parks are barely getting put in or followed to what was once a requirement for a new development. There are barely any basketball courts in new developments. Buildings are getting placed in
areas where it seems like no thought went into it when planning for the future of this city.
Lakeville is a big sports town and we did not have the facilities to support it.
A sports dome is essential for Lakeville to maintain its attractiveness with other suburban communities. Look to Woodbury as an example of great community services
Would prefer the sports dome of concept A.
A dome would be ideal to be used in the winter for different purposes.
A sports dome is a must . It is the most important component.
Sports Dome is a must! Kids and teams in Lakeville need more options to continue to play recreational or competitve sports in the winter. A must for many families considering moving into communities
today is access to year-round facilities for their kids and families!
No artificial turf please. Also, I am trying to submit my vote, but the reCAPTCHA is unbelievably difficult to pass the test. Thanks.
Should have a Dome! Based on the community needs this is a must for Lakeville .
Fewer pickleball courts - maybe include tennis/basketball instead
Sledding hill locations
Walkable gardens with wildflowers to attract butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, etc
Investing/being selective about local businesses coming into Lakeville to keep people here for meals, shopping, etc rather than people going to Burnsville and Apple Valley (no more fast food restaurants,
nail salons, cheap hair salons). Invest in locally owned shops and restaurants or nicer, chain restaurants (think Vivo, Porter Creek, etc.)
Hockey rink
Hockey rink
& Hockey rink!!!!!!!
At least one batting cage area! More picnic/family area's! A playground that has shade (our MN summers are hot and the equipment gets hot). The playground at the Quarry by the baseball and soccer
fields is AWESOME - model it after that!! Since we DON'T have a community center and REALLY need one in our HUGE city - maybe building space that can be rented by teams to hold meetings, have team
gatherings/parties, etc. I really wish our city would make a community center right in the center of Lakeville across from Ames Ice Arena (the corn field). It would bring people together! Maybe that is
where you could have an indoor pool and water park like so many of the other big and growing cities do??
It should include a community center. The city has been without one for too long. LTF is not a replacement for a community center. The park and splash pad should be designed for all children and be
accessible much like king park playground only bigger.
There should be the following formaure built in this order.
Sports dome
Hockey rinks- 2 at least
Water-park indoor/outdoor.
Soccer/outdoor fields.
Those are all the things Lakeville is missing and way behind other cities our size.
The rest is just decoration not a necessity.
Lakeville needs a DOME !
thanks
Please build the dome as large as possible or 2 adjacent to each other. Lakeville athletics travels to Rosemount, Dundas, Burnsville for these amenities in winter at the least. Lets keep everyone in our
community spending money in our communi
My main desire is the soccer dome. Many LSC families drive to Northfield, Rosemount or Savage many time per week all winter. Not sure why Lakeville does not have a dome....needs one.
hockey rink that could also be used for lacrosse or boarded soccer
Outdoor basketball courts
There is a great need for a sports dome facility in Lakeville. This would be used more than any of the other amenities.
need indoor turf - please consider that with both options
Lakeville definitely needs a dome training center as well as a bigger play park for younger kids. Lakeville is growing and our parks need to keep growing as well.
I'd like to see a larger splash pad AND a dome.
I would like to see us address the lack of professional ice during the winter months. We have sports besides hockey that cannot get decent ice time to support other sports. Putting a pavilion over an outdoor
sheet of ice with a Zamboni might be an option or a dome style rink that can be used for ice in the winter and other sports during the spring, summer, and fall but is far less expensive than a full arena. My
soccer player doesn't have issues finding fields to play on. My figure skater has to commute to Bloomington for decent ice in the winter.
I think that having a sports dome in Lakeville will be an invaluable addition. Great planning!
Lakeville 100% needs the dome for multiple reasons... this is a must! Also - instead of 3 storm water treatment areas, can 1 or 2 areas become an Aquatic Center? Maybe pools for recreational
swimming/family fun and pools for competitive swimming/diving. Other ideas: 1 - Outdoor music bandshell for concerts, 2 - off-leash dog park, 3 - Community Vegetable/Fruit Garden and the produce is
sold at local farmers market (kids can come and plant/learn about gardening/etc...), 4 - BBQ grills in picnic areas, 5 - Fire pits near ice rinks.
DOME!!!!!! Clean restrooms and drinking fountains/water bottle filling stations.
LOVE the parking near the fields in the dome concept! I've watched many rainy-soccer games from my car.
Mark the fields well...so many parks have poor signage.
Will there be a warming house near the rinks?
Also, please update Cherryview Park equipment and some other older parks!
The winter dome is the most needed item. This is over due for the community. Teams have to travel way to far to have practice/train.
Fitness trail
We are in need of a multi-purpose sports dome in Lakeville. Considering all the residential building in the city, our kids need a place to practice during the winter.
please build and update the park system ASAP. falling behind adjacent cities and other similar cities in the metro.
A Sports dome is a must as in order to use a dome now we have to drive to Dundas, Savage or Burnsville and there is just not enough time for all the groups that use these three domes.
Hockey rink and sports dome.
sports dome
lights for the Pickleball courts please
Sports dome should be priority. Ninja steps and full course would be awesome - something for older kids that we currently don’t have anywhere.
Lakeville needs a community center with pool and fitness center. Liftine fitness is not a reasonable option and is extremely inconvenient to use as a simple resident vs member. The make it difficult to use.
The sports dome is necessary for our community to continue to grow and be competitive in sports!
A dome would be so awesome in Lakeville! Please make this happen if possible.
A splash pad would be fantastic at this location also, but a dome would be a huge bonus for Lakeville sports.
BMX Bike trail
Definitely the dome
Splash pad -no. Commubity pool- us. Lifetime really isn't a "community" pool when they harass you for memberships every single time.
Every surrounding community has a dome. It would be a disservice to your community if you don't add it.
This is very exciting for Lakeville. We like in lakeville but use these services that your proposing in Burnsville, Apple Valley, and Rosemount. That should end.
Mini-golf course
We absolutely need a sports dome. The clubs in a Lakeville spend so much money renting some space in other communities, it would be nice to keep those practices and spending local. PLEASE include
this!!
Walking paths
Basketball hoops
Dome is a must
Dome is a must!
Sports dome is a MUST in our community!
We need a dome!
a sports dome would be particularly beneficial for our community as it would be able to be used year round!!
WE NEED A SPORTS DOME IN LAKEVILLE! I DONT CARE WHERE IT IS AS LONG AS THERE IS ONE BUILT ASAP!!!!!!
The dome is desperately needed in Lakeville.
A dome is a must!
challenge course and dome.
We really need a dome in Lakeville, not another splash pad.
Lakeville desperately needs a sports dome.
Please Please Add the Multi sport DOME
Please include the enclosed dome in Concept A for winter sports! Lakeville desperately needs this feature.
A dome
Lakeville is huge city. We just moved from Eden Prairie last fall which is very similar in size and population. Eden Prairie felt more "community" based on the large number of modern parks and splash pads.
Lakeville seems to lack in this area.
A sports dome sounds nice at first, but then thinking about it, I question its value to the community as it would only service one group at a time. Air conditioning and heating cost would be enormous as you
would have to heat or cools something like this all year around or it would be unusable.
There are fitness machines like elliptical machines at the Eden Prairie parks but they are really novelty machine because except for a "try" - nobody uses them for fitness. I would highly encourage and
suggest multi-function over stand-alone
Challenge courses for both kids and adults are the new thing! I see both kids and adult competition (different courses) taking over for the next 10-20 years - but we need challenge courses...!!~ We have an
opportunity to be a leader rather than follower in this area. And when the leagues start, the city will not be playing "catch-up".
The question for the city and residents is do you want to leapfrog other cities in these areas or just match them...? Personally, I would like to city of Lakeville leapfrog other cities in terms. Sports domes are
okay but they are limited in use, expensive to operate, and have been done before. Challenge courses and pickit ball would make more sense.
An indoor sport dome is essential in the creation of play field. It provides a place for our children and adults in our community a space to play during the winter (we do live in Minnesota!) instead of having to
rely on Dundas, Irish Sports and Soccerblast. PLEASE consider how important it is to this community and the many advantages it would bring to our community.
I love the challenge course, but I don't think any one is going to use the outdoor fitness area. I'd rather see a splash pad (yes, there are lots of young families who would be happy to populate more than one
splash pad in the park system) in that area. The sports dome might be a good investment, especially if it extends the sports seasons for kids in the area.
Would love to see something that targets pre-teen and teenage kids - give them something healthy and safe to be doing that isn't solely dependent on being in a sport/on a team.
Concept A is the better concept. Lakeville needs a sports dome. I think that Concept A could use a splash pad. Antlers Park has water to swim and get wet in and not everyone can afford Lifetime. It could
easily be put in one of the picnic areas or move the challenge course over.
Concept A hockey area could still be placed like Concept B with a drainage area beneath the rink and a warming house. You would just have to re configure the trees - replicate the top portion of that north
parking to the south and copy Concept B with no trees at the south end but keep the ones in the grass. The warming house is a necessity when the kids are putting on skates and need to warm up on the
colder days.
I think the picture with the pickleball courts had a great concept with the rectangular shaded cabana area. There should be a shade space on the court.
I would like to see concept A because it can get used throughout the year in our climate. A splash pad seams like a waste of money due to short season.
Without a dome this is no different than any other summer recreation park...our community needs a "WINTER" dome option for training within our community vs. commuting to other cities to get this. I
would also recommend lighting for evening use to take advantage of better usage management and opportunities, as none of our other fields have lights. Look at Woodbury's Health East Complex for a well
done athletic/community center with fields, indoor complex, lighting and splash pad.
I love concept B, but want that along with a sports dome. That is a MUST!!
A multipurpose dome is a must for our community.
Really hoping hoping that concept A works out!
We could definitely benefit from a Dome!!
Sport dome is a must! What a great addition that would be for Lakeville!
I believe the sports dome would be great as the winters are long and we dont have a nearby facility to use.
please keep Dome in any plans created
No dome! They are so ugly. Also, please address the awful traffic that this will cause. What are the plans for more through streets and traffic lights? Hopefully there will be a public meeting to discuss this.
No dome
Traffic is going to be awful for the people in Avonlea. This is a terrible idea. The Cedar Ave intersections are already dangerous.
Absolutely no dome.
This is going to increase crime as well.
A dome is the best option. It can generate some revenue to offset expenses and is direly needed to support our athletic team needs.
need a sports dome in lakeville
A dome is very much needed in Lakeville
Sports dome I feel is a must
Lakeville needs a done!!!!
The sports dome is a must for Lakeville!
A dome is a must.
Sports Dome is a MUST!!!
A dome in Lakeville is a must!!!
Sports Dome for sure! This survey seems to focus solely on a splash pad. A splash pad is not a critical piece. Lakeville has other water features used by residents such as community pools, LTF pool and other
cities' water features. This would not be money well spent--our money.
Love the sports dome idea!
Lakeville needs an aquatic center.
Would love to see a dome for soccer in this area. We are always traveling to other towns to use the domes so it would be nice to have one in Lakeville.
Connecting bike path
Community (NOT at Lifetime Fitness) pool
Bandshell/outdoor fine art facilities
Futsal field(s)
I believe the dome in Option A would be a huge help to the sports teams and our community. Thanks!
I would like to see adapted equipment.
A sports dome is needed for the Lakeville community.
Lights at the ice rinks in winter are also necessary.
Being that we have 4 children who all play soccer for Lakeville Soccer Club, it would be so VERY beneficial to have a Sports Dome. I have managed my children's teams over the years and I can't tell you how
stressful it has been to try and find field space and time for the teams to train during the winter and spring months. I believe you could not go wrong in adding a Sports Dome to Avonlea as you would have
many sports teams wanting to use the space (ie. soccer, lacrosse, baseball, etc.)
Please do not put any sports dome in that park. They look terrible and don’t belong near homes. Would be better suited in another area of the city. Thank you
These are all great ideas!!
This sounds like an amazing plan and Lakeville needs something like this!
Soccer dome
Outdoor Amphitheater for summer concerts
Large, covered picnic areas for large group or family gatherings.
I am a huge fan of pickleball as an exercise activity that is local and versatile for all ages. The need for as many courts as the City can make available is evident just from the overflow of people trying to play
last week at the Dodd fields. I like the idea of an indoor sports dome, particularly if it could be utilized as a safe walking space for people in the winter, presumably during school hours while the kids are in
class. Thank you for considering all these ideas and for working to make Lakeville a form of Blue Zones community!
Dome is a must! Mom to 3 girls in travel soccer
I would like to see more volleyball/badminton courts. And perhaps indoor shuffleboard???
Need a sports dome in Lakeville
i would like to see land reserved in one form or another for an eventual Community Center. I believe it is premature now but maybe the ball diamond could be constructed in such a way that the land could
be converted to a community center base.
Thank you for pickle ball!!
It's nice that parks are including amenities for adults. So often we adults go to parks and end up just watching our kids. I would definitely use both the outdoor fitness equipment and stand alone features.
Especially since we taxpayers never got our Community Center 15 years ago; only Lifetime which is too expensive to go to. I like the design of the ice rinks where the pleasure rink is close to the building.
Hopefully the building attendant can keep the hockey players off of the pleasure rink.
More pickleball courts. Including indoor.
The pickleball courts should be side by side with a shared fence. More courts using less space & no people walking between to interrupt game. Inc water fountain. Green Valley AZ is a good example.
I also think a wave pool or outdoor swimming pool would be more useful than interactive or spray splash pads. Teens & active adults based.
Pickle Ball is very fun and popular . More courts would be wonderful!
Love the dome and hockey rink amenities.
Thank you for asking.
I chose concept A because of the need for a sports dome in Lakeville, however, I feel strongly that a splash pad is needed too.
Trails for walking/roller blading
Concept A is the way to go. This growing community needs a sports dome, and more community center type facilities. Do it right this time and don't sell us on the idea that Lifetime is a community center.
Dome is a must! Indoor play areas during the long winter months are a premium. It is critical that Lakeville provides this option.
We currently have invested significant dollars and resources in ballfields including Aronson, Quigley-Sime, the King Fields complex as well as others. Please no ballfield and instead keep as space for future
use or multi-purpose field space.
Soccer fields with lights so there can be games at night. City already has a number of lit baseball fields, no lit soccer fields yet.
The addition of a dome is ideal.
A sports dome is a MUST!!
We NEED a sports DOME! Please!
A dome should be a priority over more hockey rinks. There is no dome in Lakeville and a lot of hockey rinks including two indoor arenas. Meanwhile Lakeville families that play other sports such as soccer
must travel outside the city to have indoor space in winter.
Walking paths
Lakeville needs a sports dome, along with indoor gym & indoor workout facility like other community centers. Lifetime Fitness is not Lakeville’s Community Center.
I don't understand the need for the sports Dome. Sounds expensive and like it won't be available for everyone.
Keep your pickleball court count high. Do as many as you can. This is a sport that will be very popular. And it serves the mid to older community - which parks are normally for. And along with the growing
younger population, Lakeville will also be seeing a larger senior age growth.
The sports dome is a crucial component of this facility. Additional Indoor basketball courts are also needed in Lakeville.
would like to see a venue for summer outdoor music/theater events.
a dome...that would be AMAZING! I feel like it is a must in the state of Minnesota. It would get great use - and lakeville citizens/participants would not have to drive 30-45 minutes for a 9:30p practice
because that is the only time dome space is available
It would be nice to see a more inclusive play structure for children with disabilities.
Park needs to incorporate features for disabled children.
We need a sports dome.
No
Neither of these plans appeal to what the community needs. The community does not need more playgrounds, ball fields, soccer fields, outdoor hockey/skating rink, etc, etc. What this community needs is
a COMMUNITY CENTER and a domed multi-purpose year round athletic field like most other communities the size & demographics of Lakeville. Lifetime fitness is a joke to the hardworking people of
Lakeville ($180/month... are you kidding me!!!) and near impossible to enjoy if you are not a full fledged member. If you're going to do this... please do it right. Bring a community center (indoor/outdoor
swiming & fitness) and a dome to Lakeville.
We definitely need a dome!!!
A covered sport dome would be great so that sport teams can practice despite our spring/fall fickle weather.
Super excited to have indoor soccer playfields
I think concept A caters more towards the athletic community, which is very large in the Lakeville area. We need more spaces like this, as opposed to more splash pads.
I like the idea of a splash pad as there are already going to be many fields available for older kids and athletics. The use of the space for more than just the purpose of sports means that families with kids of
ALL ages can engage at the park. Though a covered area is nice, no one will be playing at the park in the freezing cold of winter, making it less useful.
A dome is a much needed addition to the Lakeville Community.
Need more parking at Antlers...would prefer splash pad there is more parking added. If not possible to add more parking then would prefer splash pad at Avonlea
Lakeville needs a skatepark. Most of the communities surrounding Lakeville have skateparks.
Splash pad! Splash pad! Splash pad! Oh, and maybe a fenced off dog run?
We would use shuffleboard (even if we have to provide our own equipment, but perhaps a rental option, like snowshoes?). I deliberately did not answer outdoor fitness equipment question. I never see that
equipment used at other locations, though it is good as a concept, it does not seem to get use. Especially by girls, we don't generally like people watching us workout.
I, personally, think outdoor fitness equipment is a waste of space and money. I just don't ever see them being used as they're intended. I definitely would like to see a nice hockey rink in the winter.
Add more shelters and seating. There's always a lack of shelters for events in the summer and it's nice to have seating available for friends and family.
Don't clutter the area by putting in too much. Sometimes, less is more. Thank You
Having enough parking is incredibly important for all of the fields. It would be nice to have more covered shelters in case of rain. It would also be nice to have more bathrooms for the amount of people that
would be at this location for weekends events/games. Lastly, are that many pickle ball courts needed? Maybe swap some for tennis courts.
Area for dogs, including splash pad.
I think it’s an absolute must we stay with having a done facility. With the growth of Lakeville and number of kids we have we need more facilities like this. Please push to get the dome.
Lakeville is limited on quality outdoor spots complexes and outdoor family fun areas-- great ideas-- cant go wrong either way
Why so many pickleball courts? That is a PE class game. Why not a tennis court or outdoor basketball court?
Batting Cages
A dome would be amazing, the more fields, the better. Winter is SOOOO LONG in Minnesota.
Another indoor hockey rink is also needed in South Lakeville.
My kids are too old for the splash pad but those add value for all families.
Designed for all able bodied and disabled
Dome and splash pad or pool are much needed in Lakeville
Lakeville needs a public pool!!!! Lifetime fitness does not allow non-members to bring friends or family to pool if they do not live in Lakeville. Ridiculous! POOL NEEDED!!!!!!
Is the cost of concept A and B the same? I’m not sure the outdoor fitness equipment would be used and how will it stand up to winters or are the items removed? How will the dome time be
determined?
I don't feel like outdoor fitness equipment is needed. With the large Life Time in Lakeville, and all the other gyms, I don't think people would use it regularly.
Also, seems excessive to put in a doom for baseball in Lakeville.
Lakeville Resident since 1972.
1987 grad, live and work in Lakeville now
Our community needs it's own indoor sports facility/dome!!
Even though both of my children will be graduated by the time it is complete, I would vote for a tax increase to guarantee one is available for the children in our own community!
Pursuing Lifetime vs. building a community center was extremely shortsighted in my humble opinion. A covered indoor practice facility is desperately needed in Lakeville. It will be used by multiple sports
associations and will remove the need to travel to Burnsville or Northfield for practices and evaluations. It will be an excellent source of revenue for the city and I can assure you, there will be no lacking in
booking during late fall, winter and spring months. Baseball and soccer associations have an extremely difficulty time finding indoor space. You could also run indoor leagues as well if concerned with
booking/use. You could also use it for expos and other community gatherings during the summer/off season for indoor play. It will get utilized and will provide a steady source of revenue to the city if built.
Please, please build a covered sports dome facility!!!!!
A sports dome with indoor practice turf seems essential to the Lakeville baseball community.
A turf baseball field would be a great addition to provide early opportunities to play baseball in the spring when fields are too wet to practice.
Fix seating and draining at King. So much money has been invested in King and it is a HORRIBLE location to for baseball spectating.
start building more things in south lakeville. Most of the fields are run down at mcgregor. There needs to be more up keep for all the money that is being brouhgt into lakeville. The south part of town
needs to get cleaned up. You have the motel 6 that only brings in drugs. I have unfortunatly seen a couple drug deals in the parking lot there, mcdonalds, and 2 in walmart parking lot. South has a lot offer,
so help keep clean and bring more nice things this part of the community.
I would not do this at all. As a baseball family who uses King Field, I would correct the failures there first. Baseball is a spectator sport and many of the grass areas surrounding the fields are challenging to
place a chair. I understand that bleachers are available, but many people (Grandparents especially) prefer to sit in a chair down the baselines vs. sitting on a hard metal surface for an entire game. There are
also fields so far from the parking lot that access to these fields is challenging because paths do not go in a pattern that easily can get you to and from the parking lot or bathroom/concessions. Bathroom
facilities are another issue for our "premium" field in which tournaments are to be held. My family has participated in tournaments in which we are at the farthest field and for our flagship field to only
provide port-a-potties is unacceptable. Fix what we have before wasting time and money on something we don't need. I have also not seen a need for soccer fields as a family that has participated in
soccer. What I have witnessed is a challenge in scheduling field time because (I am told by coaches) the city and associations limit time and field space. I would recommend someone in logistics be hired to
fix this problem before spending countless millions on something we don't need.
A sports dome is a no-brainer. Given the number of young student athletes in this community, the success of the high school level teams, and the overall size of this community, a dome is a necessity.
The splash-pad amenities are nice touch and family activity that should be able to be incorporated at both Antlers Park and Avon Lea.
At least one baseball diamond should be located at Avonlea.
The domed field is a MUST for our community. We spend so much money elsewhere in the spring to get our teams ready for the early-spring sports. Let's keep it in the community.
A dome is most important for our sports teams and would be a major draw of people to our community.
We really need a dome in Lakeville. It would get used all the time. We wouldn’t have to wait for the other cities dome to be free to get in and use it. Please add this feature. I believe this is a must in
Lakeville. Mom of baseball and softball players.
pay for play mini putt course!
The hockey arena would have high demand. I know Lakeville can use more ice sheets, but the surrounding communities (Farmington, Apple Valley, Eastview, Rosemount, etc.) drive long distances right now
in search of ice times.
Playing fields (soccer, lacrosse, football etc.) is important too as field demand is high.
I think having these fields/arenas, etc. can bring a lot of tournaments to the area generating additional business for the local economies. Maybe Avonlea doesn’t have enough enough to host a
tournament alone but using all the other Lakeville fields/arenas will accommodate it and be convenient enough since it’s in same geographic area.
Lakeville would benefit Tremendously from concept A....especially the dome. Teams are constantly going to other cities and paying them to use the dome. It only makes sense to use this in our community
and have revenue from others using it. We are a large enough community to support this. PLEASE use concept A.
Thanks!
Indoor field space is absolutely essential!!!
Only concern is an indoor dome - that is what the North program needs for multiple sports
greenway to connect Antlers, downtown lakeville and lake marion
While I don’t think a splash pad is needed at Antlers Park because of it proximity to the lake, I think it is needed somewhere. I also believe that for older kids trying out for sports in the winter a sports
dome would be ideal somewhere in town. To me it makes more sense for a splash pad to go into the proposed area, but I’d rather have the sports dome because my kids are older and I had to trek them
to Dundas for tryouts.
Definitely need at least 1 turf field, whether outside or in dome. Life-size chess and checkers boards on the ground would be a great addition while not taking up much space. 8 pickleball courts is too many
since not many people know about the sport - maybe 4 would be better. An area for outdoor movies and food trucks would be fun.
- Would you use outdoor fitness equipment is presented as a "yes" or "no" question, but those options are not available as answers. FYI. The fitness stuff is a waste of space. A rental area would serve
better.
- At least a partially shaded playground area is ideal, like the one at Cty 46 and Pilot Knob near the Target. Perfect for play anytime of day.
Antler's park already has a beach, it makes more sense to have the splash pad separate to allow people in different parts of lakeville to have multiple water options. It would also prevent kids from bringing
beach sand into the water park, which sounds like a maintenance mess. I don't think that outdoor fitness equipment would be used. I also don't see much value in installing artificial turf.
All fields to be artificial turf.
Indoor courts, full fitness center equipment, indoor/outdoor pool. Make this a true community center like many suburbs in the metro
Would love to see a narrow running track, maybe around the perimeter of the park.
Don't understand the need for another sports dome considering the expense.
I love the fact that we are adding another regulation baseball field to the community. If possible, I would like to recommend that the community look at turfing the entire grassy areas of the baseball field
(still want dirt at bases). The turf would allow local teams (high school in particular due to spring weather) to have another option for spring games in case of wet weather. Another reason is that it would
not have the daily maintenance need that our current fields have (a cost savings). As a longtime baseball coach, it is frustrating to see how our fields are maintained on a daily basis (tractors mowing lawns
and creating lips and bumps all around the field, field drags being dragged into the grass which creates huge lips on the field which makes the game more dangerous for our athletes, etc).
It appears that there will be other turf areas of the park as well, so could we turf the baseball field also?
Lakeville needs a sports dome!
I have seen outdoor fitness equipment at many parks in other cities, but have never seen anyone using them. It would be nice to see the splash pad added to plan A instead of the outdoor fitness equipment
and challenge course.
Lakeville needs an indoor dome to compete with other communities. Right now, our baseball players have to go as far as dundas to train in colder weather. It's a shame we have nothing like that here
considering the size of our athletics programs. Kinda funny a community as small as Dundas has an indoor dome and we have nothing.
I think Lakeville definitely needs at least one splash pad and feel it might be a better fit at Avonlea. If it is at Antler, the splash pad may get a lot of sand on it. Some of the benefit for a splash pad for our
family is that I don’t have to worry as much about my youngest child getting in water over his head. I feel like he’d be more likely to leave the splash pad and enter the lake if it is at Antlers. Similarly, I
have a disabled daughter and feel and slash pad at Avonlea would be cleaner because there wouldn’t be cross traffic from a beach. That said, I also think Lakeville could greatly benefit from a sports
dome. If there was a way to incorporate both features into Avonlea, that would be ideal. I would not likely ever use outdoor fitness equipment. I exercise daily, but this is not something myself or my family
would use. I do think a challenge course is a great idea and a wonderful addition to this park. Regarding the playground, I rarely see kids use the net climbers. I think other equipment would be a better
investment.
Lakeville needed a sports dome years ago. GET IT DONE!
A dome is a must. We currently drive to Dundas, Savage & Rosemount to use dome facilities. Lakeville needs their own!
I appreciate when there is a section of the playground designed for younger children but still in view of the main structure so that both of my children can enjoy the equipment and I can easily keep an eye
on the older while playing with the younger.
I think it is important to include a sports dome. So many of our athletic teams have to travel great distances to be able to train and practice during the winter.
I really like the idea of a water feature for kids to play that's more that from the ground but less than a full blown water park. I am also a fan of outdoor fitness equip that adults can use when kids are off
playing w/friends, etc...gives us all an opportunity to be active if our kids don't need constant monitoring. I like concepts shown in A & B but A offers the most - but if you can add the splash pad that would
be great. Obviously shade is key as well..since it will be new, you won't have mature tree's so not being in blazing sun while playing would be nice. Picnic area's as well if you're there for awhile...keeping it
interactive and accessible is important.
The dome is a NEED, and can't wait for this development. We are behind every other community around us. We also need basketball/volleyball facilities, and again, cannot wait for Avonlea.
We need an indoor turf facility
It looks as if the hockey rinks are in a parking lot? Why not make them permanent? That part is confusing.
Indoor turf fields for many sports so we don't have to commute to other communities to use theirs in the winter
Restaurant at Antlers park! Or somewhere on Marion (gravel pit by frontage road).
I like to walk at the Apple Valley waterpark . they have a lazy river that you can walk in with special hours for adults for $3.
100% option A. The city needs a domed stadium to compete with nearby towns. Also, for the fitness equipment option the question asks if you would use the equipment but the options for answers appear
to say which option you would use....Neither. This is a complete waste of $ as no (or very few) grown adults would use this equipment on a regular basis. The only time I’ve ever seen this equipment used
at parks is by people (mainly kids) trying it for a minute or two.....not a full on workout. Spend the money more wisely. Also, I would recommend to plant a lot of trees as it makes it feel more like a park
rather than a wide open field (side note, King Park needs a whole ton of trees planted).
Lakeville desperately needs a dome sports facility. This is awesome to see as an option.
Lighted fields with expanded hours for said lights.
We need the sports done for winter baseball
I think having a dome would be a fantastic idea. This could be utilized more often which could generate more for the City.
The park should allow children with special needs full access. There should be multiple types of equipment for all ages. A challenge course and splash pad are needed.
Perhaps a small amphitheater for outdoor concerts during the summer, something similar to what Apple Valley has at Kelley Park?
I think a dome is a great idea.
Dome is a must in Lakeville
Building a dome in concept b would make more sense. Pickle ball courts would be the most under utilized in my opinion, while the dome would house activities for 7 months a year. A dome is a must for
Lakeville and would generate additional revenues for the city.
Lakeville does not have a sports dome. It Would be a nice feature to include because a lot of families have to travel in the winter for dome play. With this addition, Avonlea Community Play field would be
used year around.
Would love to see the sports dome in both parks to keep open and keep us moving during winter months as well.
Would absolutely love having a dome here in Lakeville!
The indoor dome is exceptionally important providing year round, day/night space for soccer, baseball, football, etc. For years we've been travelling to communities like Rosemount, Woodbury, Prior Lake
thinking why doesn't Lakeville invest in a sports dome? What a great time to do it!
Aside from that on the large baseball field I would strongly encourage the city looking into putting artificial turf on the playing surface of this field. Although the upfront costs will be higher those costs will
be surpassed by savings long term due the low maintenance as well as the revenues generated by additional time available to use the field when a grass field couldn't be used such as after rain or snow.
Lakeville so desperately needs to continue to provide increased Parks & Rec opportunities for youth and adult sports. We continue to build homes, designed to attract young families. As a community, we
lose revenue weekly when our residents must travel to Dundas or Shakopee
Outdoor fitness equipment is not needed since the clubhouse has a fitness room and most people belong to a club or fitness center if they want those things.
We really need the dome so our spirts teams can compete. It sad we have to continue to drive our teams to Dundas for tryouts and practice it make for late nights and why spend our money in Dundas when
we can keep it in Lakeville!! Also another baseball field would be great
Raquetball
Add a food truck lane near the ball field.
Sports dome please! Let's keep our families here in our city instead of driving way off to other cities for sports that require the dome. Thank you!
Turfed athletic fields and baseball diamond increasing their ability to be used in early spring and during wet times.
Additional fastpitch Softball or the possibility of using multiuse turf space for fastpitch softball.
We would be thrilled to see a community pool!
mini golf?
Lakeville needs to add more Senior activities to Lakeville. Apple Valley has much more. We are greatful 6 new Pickleball courts were finally added to Lakeville. Looks like other towns are coming to use it
too. Lakeville has focused more on youth activities but there are many seniors living in this area also. Seniors pay taxes also & enjoy much needed indoor facilities as Pickleball courts.
My main interest would be with the pickleball courts. While I would prefer 8 courts over 6, I believe the proposal of having the courts being lighted would be most important.
Thanks
Blake
Increase the numbers of patio tables and shelters areas. This will also bring in families and friends for birthdays or other gatherings in addition to sport events.
A dome would be huge for sports in the area!
Pool
Looking at these plans, I definitely think we need a domed fields option. Please make it so we can have it as an outdoor turfed option with dome removal in summer months.
I think the Outdoor Fitness workout area would be a great addition to our community.
We really need the indoor sports dome.

The master plan images on this board are meant to illustrate general proposed layout showing how the amenities relate to one another and to provide examples
of the types of amenities to consider during implementation. The actual designs for the buildings, playground equipment and other site amenities have not
been determined at this point and would take place during the final design process to ensure the materials, colors and textures fit with the site appropriately.
• Central plaza is approximately 3 feet higher than the playground and splash fountain
• Plaza buildings would frame the view of the lake and illustrate historical images
• Or namental fence, plantings and arbors separate the patio and lower area
• Pavilion and lawn area is located to the north of the plaza
• Plaza buildings frame the view of the fountain and lake
• Fire pit provides year-round use of park
• Fountain sprays provide ornamental interest and interactive play
The images below provide a range of examples of multi-generational play features that could be incorporated
into the adventure / challenge area meant to provide more interest for a broad range of user groups.
