HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 06.u Date: Item No. Resolution Setting Compensation and Reimbursement Rates for Firefighters Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve the Resolution setting compensation and reimbursement rates for Firefighters. Overview The City has determined to change from pay per call to hourly pay is the first step in our cities fire department moving forward and paying the firefighters for the work they do. The proposal to change to an hour pay will be a major change administratively and operationally for our department and staff. We are proposing to move our pay structure to an hourly rate based on years of service and rank / position. Passage of this resolution will better help offset costs incurred by our firefighters for attending training, conferences and responding to calls. Costs may include but are not limited to babysitters, fuel and wear for personal vehicles, and clothing. The proposed firefighter compensation rates are provided for in the 2019 budget and are consistent with fire department pay practices found in other cities. Primary Issues to Consider • Proposed pay rate increases are included in the 2019 budget.
