DESIGNATION OF LEGAL NEWSPAPER FOR 2019
Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to continue designation of the St. Paul Pioneer Press as Lakeville’s official legal newspaper for 2019.
Overview Minnesota Statute 412.831 requires annual designation of an Official Newspaper: “The council shall, annually at its first meeting of the year, designate a legal newspaper of general circulation in the city as its official newspaper, in which shall be published such ordinances and other matters as are required by law to be so published and such other matters as the council may deem it advisable and in the public interest to have published in this manner.”
As required, each year the City designates a newspaper to be used for its legal notices. In 2018, a bid was received for legal newspaper designation from the St. Paul Pioneer Press. This paper currently qualifies for designation as a legal newspaper. It is delivered to 202,580 people, at a reasonable rate, with a flexible schedule for posting notices and good customer service. Therefore, staff recommends designating the St. Paul Pioneer Press as the City’s legal newspaper for 2019.
