Olson, Community and Economic Development Director Copy: Justin Miller, City Administrator Kati Bachmayer, Economic Development Specialist Date: February 26, 2019 Subject: February Director’s Report The following is the Director’s Report for February 2018. Building Permit Report The City has issued building permits with a total valuation of $16,849,114 through January 2019. This compares to a total valuation of $17,476,296 for building permits issued through January of 2018. The City has issued commercial and industrial building permits with a total valuation of $1,166,000 through January. This compares to a total valuation of $1,006,000 for commercial and industrial permits through January of 2018. The City has issued permits for 33 single-family homes through January with a total valuation of $10,995,000. This compares to 18 single-family home permits issued through January of 2018 with a total valuation of $5,348.000. The City has also issued permits for 9 townhomes through January with a total valuation of $1,914,000. This compares to 1 townhome permit through January of 2018 with a total valuation of $261,000. The City has issued the highest number of residential permits in the Twin Cities through January according to Housing First Minnesota (Builders Association of the Twin Cities). Development Update The following are updates on a number of active commercial and industrial projects: • Schneiderman’s Distribution Center has recently been issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for their 130,000-square foot building in the Interstate South Logistics Park at the corner of County Road 70 and Dodd Blvd. This project will bring 44 jobs to the City and was provided tax increment financing assistance from the City. • Construction continues on HomeGoods, which will be located in the former OfficeMax space next to Marshall’s and Target on 185th Street, and Wings Financial Credit Union, to be located next to Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers off Pilot Knob Rd (near Hy-Vee). • Construction on the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Kingsway Senior Housing (55 market-rate units) has begun. This new development is located near Lakeville North High School at the intersection of Ipava Ave and Indiana Ave. • Construction on Lakeside Flats near County Road 46 and I-35 has received approval for the occupancy of more than half of their 120 market rate apartment units. The project includes studio, 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom units, ranging in price from $1,100 up to $2,200. • Construction continues for Compeer Financial at 21088 Keswick Loop. The construction of this 2-story office building is anticipated to be complete in Spring 2019. The project will consolidate Compeer staff from the current Apple Valley and Northfield locations into one Lakeville location. • Construction continues for both the B-52 Burgers and Brew that is remodeling the former Erickson Drug Store space on Holyoke Avenue in Downtown and also the Northern Tap House that is currently remodeling the former Applebee’s building in Timbercrest Shopping Center near Target. Both are anticipating a spring opening. Additional Highlights • City and County staff continue to meet with a number of industrial park businesses that will be impacted by the proposed expansion of County Road 70 to a four-lane divided highway. Various options are being considered for portions of the project in which access changes that will have a potential significant impact on a number of existing businesses. • City staff attended the ribbon-cutting for Escape MSP that recently opened in the former 360 Communities space in the Lakeville Mall in Downtown. This is a unique entertainment type of business that should complement the existing and new bar restaurants that have located in Downtown. • Finally, a reminder of the Advisory Appreciation Dinner that will be held on Thursday, February 28th starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Lakeville Area Arts Center.
