Overview The Lakeville Police Department will be retiring Canine Officer "Blue" in February of 2010. We currently have two canine teams that provide daily canine coverage. With the pending retirement of Canine Officer "Blue", it is necessary to acquire and train a replacement canine in order to maintain our current level of canine service. In addition, it will be necessary to install a kennel facility at the residence of the new canine handler. The estimated cost of the canine transition is $15,000.00. Historically, the department has funded K9 team "start-up" costs through private donations, and our intention is to continue that tradition for the 2010 K9 Transition. Primary Issues to Consider • Minnesota Statute 465.03 requires that all gifts and donations of real or personal property be accepted only with the adoption of a resolution of the governing body.
