HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 06.lMarch 15, 2010 N97 Item No. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING STAFF TO PREPARE GRANT APPLICATION FOR SUBMITTAL TO THE LEGISLATIVE CITIZEN COMMISSION ON MINNESOTA RESOURCES Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to authorize staff to prepare grant application for submittal to the Legislative Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources. Overview City staff continues to seek out available funding sources eligible to acquire the Bury property. To date, preliminary grant approvals include: • Dakota County — $300,000 • Federal TE Grant — up to $350,000 acquisition funds and $650,000 trail construction funds (Kenrick Ave.) • Dakota County Regional Trail Construction — $100,000 • Lakeville Park Dedication Funds — $400,000 Grant submittal requires a City Council resolution authorizing staff to submit the application. Submittal of an application in no way obligates the City to any expenditures. WHEREAS, the Legislative Citizens Commission on Minnesota Resources has established grant programs for the funding and development of trails and associated park land acquisition; and WHEREAS, such acquisition and development is beneficial to the City of Lakeville's park system by increasing public recreation opportunities on Lake Marion offered by the City of Lakeville Parks and Recreation Department; and WHEREAS, matching funds are available through the Park Dedication Fund and other grant resources working cooperatively with Dakota County. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakeville that the Director of Parks and Recreation is hereby authorized to make application for funds to secure financial assistance to acquire the Bury property.
