Proclamation
WHEREAS: The health of the people is tied to the health of their forests; and
WHEREAS: Trees and forest soils keep our lakes and streams clean by absorbing and filtering
pollutants and sediments; and
WHEREAS: Forest soils prevent flooding and reduce stormwater by capturing and storing
rainwater and snowmelt, which is then slowly released to our lakes, streams, and
groundwater; and
WHEREAS: Careful management of our forests is one of the best ways to protect drinking
water and reduce the cost of water treatment; and
WHEREAS: About three-quarters of Minnesotans get their drinking water from the forested
parts of the state; and
WHEREAS: Planting and caring for trees is a natural and easy way to keep our water clean;
and
WHEREAS: The last Friday in April, and throughout the month of May, Minnesotans pay
special tribute to our trees as natural resources and rededicate ourselves to the
vitality of our forests.
WHEREAS: The City of Lakeville will observe Arbor Day on Saturday, April 27rd at the
Central Maintenance Facility during the community Arbor Day Tree & Shrub
Sale followed by an educational booth at the Earth Day Event.
THEREFORE, The City Council of the City of Lakeville, in firm support of its community forest,
proclaims
Saturday April 27, 2019
as Arbor Day in the City of Lakeville
