RESOLUTION ADOPTING
RECOGNITION PAY POLICY FOR
PART-TIME LIQUOR STORE EMPLOYEES
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve resolution adopting the
Recognition Pay Policy for Part Time Liquor Employees.
Overview
Since 2016 the City Council, on an annual basis, has been approving recognition pay for part
time liquor employees based on their years of service. This has been based on City Council
beliefs that attracting, maintaining and motivating part-time employees impacts cooperation and
productivity within the Lakeville Municipal Liquor Stores and improves customer service.
The adoption of the policy attached would establish a policy to acknowledge the part-time liquor
employees, while providing them tangible goals in which they must achieve.
Primary Issues to Consider
• The adoption of this policy does meet all state statutes as well as public expenditure
policies.
• This policy has been reviewed and has the support of both the Personnel and Liquor
Committees.

RECOGNITION PAY FOR
PART TIME LIQUOR EMPLOYEES
PURPOSE
1. The City Council believes the benefits of attracting, retaining and motivating part-
time employees through an Employee Recognition Program supports employee job
satisfaction, which in turn impacts cooperation and productivity. The result is to
provide excellent public and customer service to better serve the interests of the
citizens of the community. The purpose of the part-time liquor employee’s
recognition pay program is to achieve the foregoing, provide tangible goals for our
part-time employees, while also acknowledging them for their contributions and
years of service to the community.
RECOGNITION PAY:
Those employees actively employed on December 31st of each year will receive the
following value in the form of a taxable gift card in appreciation of their service.
Five or more years of service $ 200.00
More than one but less than five years of service $ 50.00
Less than one year of service $ 25.00
CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION DISBURSEMENT:
Part time employee recognition pay will be issued to all part-time employees as long as the
following three criteria have been met:
• All liquor stores combined must meet or exceed adopted budget sales projections
for the year.
• All liquor stores combined must achieve a perpetual inventory variance for the year
of less than 0.075% of total sales.
• All liquor stores combined must increase club membership sales over the previous
year.
Recognition pay will be awarded at the first employee meeting of the following year.
Failure to meet any of the criteria noted above forfeits the part-time liquor employee’s
recognition pay for that year.
Part-time employees remain qualified for the annual recognition awards provided through
the City of Lakeville.
