HomeMy WebLinkAbout78-014C # • CITY OF LAKEVILLE RESOLUTION Date 21 February, 1978 Resolution No. 78-14 Motion by Curry Seconded by Zaun RESOLUTION EXPRESSING INTEREST IN THE PROPOSED CHICAGO, MILWAUKEE, ST. PAUL AND PACIFIC RAILROAD ABANDONMENT AND POTENTIAL CONVERSION FOR REGIONAL RECREATION TRAIL CORRIDOR WHEREAS, the City of Lakeville's City Council has recently become aware of the anticipated abandonment of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad line generally extending from C4x!verZCounty to Farmington in Dakota County; and WHEREAS, the City Council has recognized the need to establish re- gional recreation trail corridors, providing trail access to regional parks, City parks, pedestrian walkways across the City; and WHEREAS, the railroad right-of-way crosses in the center of the Lakeville business district on the south side of 208th Street from Hollins to Hughes Avenues; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to see the business district further developed and renewed by elimination of the railroad right-of-way in this area of the City. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council expresses its interest in the proposed Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad abandonment within the City of Lakeville for regional recreation trail cor- ridor purposes; FURTHERMORE, that the City encourages the Metropolitan Council to include rail lines scheduled for abandonment in the Regional Recreation Trail Plan and place high priority on the acquisition of these lines as a means of maximizing available Regional Trail Corridor Funds and support Federal legis- lation authorizing and appropriating- mo+iey for the acquisition and develop- ment of abandoned railroads; FURTHERMORE, that %the Cit), encourage .tile City ,of Farmington and Dakota County to support the conversion -of that portipn of the rail line to be abandoned within their respective jurisdictions as an extension of the g regional trail corridor; FURTHERMORE, the City Council directs the Lakeville Park and Recrea- tion Committee and staff to recommend plans for alternative trail continuity from Hollins Avenue to Hughes Avenue to replace the present Milwaukee Railroad right-of-way; FURTHERMORE, that copies of this Resolution be sent to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Minnesota State Planning Agency, Metropolitan Council, Metropolitan Parks and Open Space Commission, Scott County Board of Commissioners, City of Shakopee, City of Prior Lake, Eagle Creek Township, Credit River Township, Dakota County Board of Commissioners, and the City of Farmington.
