HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 05 September 16, 2019 Item No. PROCLAMATION DECLARING OCTOBER 1-7, 2019 AS MANUFACTURERS WEEK IN LAKEVILLE Overview This will be the 26th Annual Manufacturers Week in the City of Lakeville, which is part of a state- wide effort to recognize the contributions manufacturers make to our economy including jobs, tax base, and community involvement. A copy of the proclamation will be provided to all industrial businesses in Lakeville. These businesses have also been invited to the Lakeville Manufacturers Appreciation Reception to be held on Tuesday, October 1st at Brackett’s Crossing Country Club. The Workforce Development Panel Discussion will take place prior to the reception for the third year. The panelists will share information about the Lakeville Works program and how it can connect local employers to workforce solutions. The program will be an interactive discussion with the Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce, ISD 194 School District and local program stakeholders. This year’s event is sponsored by Dakota Electric Association, Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau, Launch Properties, Minnesota Energy Resources, Scannell Properties, and Xcel Energy. 2019 Manufacturers Week Whereas: Manufacturing is a dynamic and robust industry, crucial to the health and strength of Minnesota’s diverse economy; and Whereas: The manufacturing industry contributed $52.7 billion to Minnesota’s economy in 2018, representing the second-largest contribution (14 percent) to the state’s gross domestic product by any industry; and Whereas: Workers took home $21.6 billion in wages from Minnesota manufacturing jobs in 2018, the second-largest total payroll among private sector industries; and Whereas: Manufactured exports brought $21 billion into the Minnesota economy in 2018; and Whereas: Manufacturing in Minnesota pays an average annual wage of $67,098, which is 15 percent higher than the state’s overall average wage; and Whereas: Manufacturing provides 322,000 highly skilled, well-paying jobs, which significantly contribute to Minnesota’s high standard of living and economic vitality; and Whereas: Manufacturing and related businesses are one of the largest employment sectors in Lakeville and account for over 150 businesses and 3,750 jobs in our community. NOW THEREFORE, the Lakeville City Council does hereby proclaim that the week of October 1 to October 7, 2019 shall be observed as: Manufacturers Week in the City of Lakeville Proclaimed this 16th day of September, Two Thousand and Nineteen.
