HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 06.e September 16, 2019 Item No. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF VEHICLES Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve Resolution Authorizing the Sale of Vehicles. Overview The 1997 Legislature made DWI enforcement more stringent by enabling cities to seize vehicles that are involved in certain violations. The seized vehicle may be held a minimum of 30 days prior to the expiration of the owner’s right to challenge the forfeiture. Vehicles the City currently has in storage may be disposed of in accordance with Minnesota Statute Section 169A.63, Subd. 10. City staff is recommending that the vehicles be sold at the State’s online auction. Primary Issues to Consider • Value of vehicles. The City historically has received the highest value for vehicles at the State online Auction due to the high number of bidders. Any vehicles or City assets not sold will be disposed of. Any vehicles not sold will be sent to salvage.
