Appointment of Members to the Technology Workgroup
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve a resolution appointing
members to the Technology Workgroup.
Overview
In 2017 the City Council appointed an advisory group of ten residents, including two high school
students, to address current and future technology needs within the city and throughout the
community. Over the past year a few members of the group have resigned due to schedule changes
or other commitments that have made them unable participate. The city advertised to obtain
applications to fill the openings and received three applications. After reviewing the applications,
the City Council has chosen to appoint Alan Miner, Robert Stangler, and Jay Warner as the new
members of the workgroup.
Primary Issues to Consider
What is the responsibility of the Technology Workgroup?
The purpose of the Technology Workgroup is to identify opportunities and make
recommendations for improvements to city services through the use of technology. Examples
include evaluating the city’s fiber optic network, e-commerce offerings, and partnering with the
business community on issues that may benefit our residents and businesses. The work group is
comprised of representatives from throughout the community with a background or interest in
information technology. The group meets monthly and is supported by the City of Lakeville
Information Systems Manager.
