HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 06.g Date: February 18, 2020 Item No. APPROVAL OF WELLS NO. 8 AND NO. 11 REHABILITATION PROJECT CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve Well 8 and 11 rehabilitation project Change Order No. 1 increasing the contract sum in the amount of $26,530.00. Overview Well rehabilitation is part of an ongoing preventive maintenance program to ensure the optimal functioning of production wells. Both Wells No. 8 and No. 11 are submersible wells with both the pump and motor under water. These types of wells are typically scheduled for rehabilitation every 8 to 10 years. This change order involves the installation of approximately 300 feet of new submersible electrical cable to connect to the motors in both wells. Replacement of the cable is recommended anytime the motor is refurbished or replaced. In this instance, one of the electrical cables was defective and reducing motor efficiency. Additionally, the change order recommends coating 100 feet of down hole piping to prevent corrosion. These pipe segments were not coated at the last rehabilitation. The initial contract was for $149,750.00. Change Order No. 1 adds $26,530.00 in additional work. Since there is no need to remove sand from the wells, estimated total cost for the well rehabilitation project, including Change Order No. 1, is $94,076.00, below the overall contract cost, as well as the budgeted amount. Staff recommends approval of Change Order No. 1 Primary Issues to Consider • Is the additional work necessary? Yes. The electrical cabling that was removed from Well 8 had resistance from moisture in the cable and was affecting the efficiency of the motor. It cannot be reinstalled. At Well 11, replacement of the cabling is precautionary to ensure the continued efficiency of the well. Pipe coating reduces corrosion which can also reduce the efficiency of the well.
