HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 7City of Lakeville Public Works Memorandum To: Mayor and City Council Justin Miller, City Administrator From: Allyn Kuennen, Assistant City Administrator Neil Normandin, Public Works & Facilities Coordinator Copy: Paul Oehme, Public Works Director Mac Cafferty, Environmental Resources Manager Date: February 24, 2020 Subject: City Hall Front Entrance Landscaping and Plaza Design In the 2020 budget the City Council approved updating the landscaping and plaza at the front entrance to City Hall. The intent was to reduce the amount of concrete that needed to be maintained and eliminate the tripping hazards presented by the offset concrete panels including the removal and replacement of overgrown trees and landscaping with suitable plantings. Staff worked with consultants from Wenck to prepare plans that eliminated the offset concrete panels and incorporated a more welcoming and aesthetically designed plaza, improved drainage of water from the roof and improved landscaping. Two basic concepts were produced that are similar in footprint but offer different designs for the plaza area at the front entrance. Both concepts, in terms of basic features, cost approximately $120,000. Options that incorporate unique design features (raised planting areas and bench seating) will add between $20,000 and $40,000 to that basic cost, depending on the options chosen. The majority of the project will be funded from the Building Fund with the stormwater and irrigation system work to be funded from the Stormwater Management Fund. Staff and representative from Wenk will be available at the work session to present and discuss the attached concepts.
