AND TONETE JENSEN AS LAKEVILLE PIONEERS TO BE HONORED AT PIONEER PLAZA Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve resolution authorizing induction of Vernon W. and Tonete Jensen as Lakeville Pioneers to be honored at Pioneer Plaza. Overview The City of Lakeville established Pioneer Plaza to recognize residents who have exhibited a long-term commitment to the development and quality of life within the community. Through their leadership and contributions to the local farming and agricultural industries, the arts community and preservation of Lakeville’s history, Vern and Tonete Jensen are deserving candidates to be honored at Pioneer Plaza. Later this summer, a date will be set to have a plaque unveiling ceremony at Pioneer Plaza. AND TONETE JENSEN AS LAKEVILLE PIONEERS TO BE HONORED AT PIONEER PLAZA WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lakeville may authorize induction of worthy candidates of Lakeville Pioneers to be honored at Pioneer Plaza; and WHEREAS, certain criteria have been established to be eligible for induction as a Lakeville Pioneer; and WHEREAS, Vern and Tonete were long-time leaders and contributors to the community of Lakeville and are eligible to be inducted into Pioneer Plaza. Vern and Tonete Jensen: • Made significant contributions to the farming and agricultural industries of Lakeville and surrounding communities, • Worked to preserve and promote the arts by founding the Lakeville Art Guild and contributing to the development of the Lakeville Area Arts Center for many years, • Worked to preserve the history of Lakeville by founding the first Lakeville Historical Society, • Cultivated a legacy of preserving natural resources in Lakeville by volunteering on Lakeville’s Natural Resources Committee, Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District and making significant land donations to the State of Minnesota – Department of Natural Resources. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lakeville City Council unanimously authorizes the induction of Vernon W. and Tonete Jensen as Lakeville Pioneers to be honored at Pioneer Plaza in downtown Lakeville.
