Home My WebLink AboutItem 06.j Date: Item No. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE AND DISPOSAL OF VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT AND AMENDING THE EQUIPMENT FUND BUDGET Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Approve resolution authorizing the purchase and disposal of vehicles and equipment and amending the Equipment Fund Budget. Overview The 2021 Capital Improvement Plan includes the purchase of two snow and ice control pieces of equipment for sidewalk maintenance in the winter and mowing operations in the summer. Staff is requesting to procure two John Deere 1575 units at this time, so they are available for sidewalk and trail maintenance this winter. Delivery of the equipment would be mid-December with Council approval at this time. These units will be used for downtown sidewalk snow removal and other trails and sidewalks around town. These units are expected to provide better snow removal than the unit the city currently uses in the downtown. The John Deere 1575 units would be purchased from the state of Minnesota contract which is the best pricing the City can receive. The existing snow removal equipment (unit #2233) MB MSV will be sold at auction with an estimated sale price of $10,000. A resolution to amend the Equipment Fund budget is included with this agenda item since staff is requesting that the purchase and disposal be moved up to 2020 from 2021. In addition, a pickup truck that was authorized to be purchased with the 2019 budget was not received until 2020; therefore, the expense of about $54,000 is reflected in 2020. This purchase replaced unit #2012. The resolution reflects this additional 2020 expense, as well. Primary Issues to Consider • Are these pieces of equipment necessary to be purchased at this time? The procurement of the John Deere’s takes about 6 weeks for delivery. With the standard schedule the City follows these units would not be delivered until late February. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakeville, Minnesota as follows: 1. The recitals set forth above are incorporated herein. 2. Staff is authorized to purchase snow removal equipment at an estimated cost of $82,000. 3. Staff is authorized to amend the Equipment Fund budget in the year the equipment is received in the amount of $82,000 for the snow equipment and $54,000 for the pickup truck using fund balance reserves as the funding source.
