The mission of the Lakeville Department is: “The Lakeville Fire Department is dedicated to serving the community
through the protection of lives and property by providing public safety education and professional emergency
response.” Since 1884 the Lakeville Fire Department has been working towards the successful accomplishment of
this mission. The purpose of this grant request is to provide a Leatherman Raptor Trauma Shears to each firefighter.
The cost of the grant is to purchase 90 Leatherman Raptor Trauma Shears to each firefighter, $ 75.39 X 90 =
$6,785.10 plus shipping. ($65.00 estimated)
The foundation has supported the department and its firefighters with the purchase Raptor Shears will provide each
firefighter with a tool that can be used at any emergency scene. The tool is a multi-tool that includes trauma shears
for removing clothes quickly on a trauma patient, window punch for a vehicle accident, seat belt cutter, oxygen
wrench for oxygen tanks and a ring cutter. Over seventy-five percent of our emergency response are medicals
where the Raptor provides a tool that is immediately in the hands of each firefighter. The Raptor also comes with a
holster so that the shears are either on their duty uniform or attached to their firefighter gear. One final note that
the fire department budget as it relates to clothing or firefighter gear, there is no individual uniform allowance to
allow them to purchase a tool like this.
Thank you for your consideration.
