Development Update The following are updates on a number of active commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential projects: • Summit Orthopedics has announced their plan to bring a location to Lakeville. A 25,000-square- foot building is proposed at 17210 Kenyon Avenue, near Holiday gas station and Perkins. • Construction continues on the new 750,000-square-foot Amazon office and distribution center building. The property is located south of 217th Street and west of Dodd Boulevard (CSAH 9) – south of QA1. The new Amazon facility is valued at $45 million, will bring 100-200 jobs to Lakeville and is anticipated to open in Fall 2021. • Children's Minnesota has opened in the former HealthPartners Park Nicollet Clinic at 18432 Kenrick Avenue. The multi-tenant building is next to Northern Taphouse and Citizens Bank. The company also has plans to construct a new building near Target and the former Best Buy building. • Springs at Lakeville, the 260 market-rate rental townhome-style apartments at the northwest corner of Cedar Avenue and Dodd Boulevard, is nearing completion and Edison at Spirit, the 160 market-rate apartment near Hy-Vee grocery store and Taco Bell, has opened. • FedEx Freight has started construction on the 88,255-square-foot addition to the maintenance and warehouse buildings. FedEx Freight is located at 9331 217th Street at the southeast quadrant of 215th Street (CSAH 70) and Dodd Boulevard (CSAH 9). • Superior Decks & Railings has started construction of a 62,000-square-foot building to be located at 7776 Lakeville Boulevard. The business designs and manufactures aluminum decks, railings and fences. • Red’s Savoy Pizza is coming soon to 17450 Kenwood Trail, formerly a Caribou Coffee. The business is scheduled to hold a ribbon cutting on February 9th. • In December, Commercial Plastics (formerly Imperial Plastics) in Lakeville notified MN DEED that the company will begin layoffs in mid-February 2021, ultimately ending with the business closure. At the time of the WARN notice, Commercial Plastics employed approximately 122 staff members in Lakeville. A DEED Rapid Response Specialist is working with the company and displaced workers. Building Permit Report The City has issued building permits with a total valuation of $442,292,572 through December 2020. This compares to a total valuation of $301,374,296 for building permits issued in 2019. The City issued permits for 639 single-family homes through December with a total valuation of $188,560,000. This compares to 521 single -family home permits through December of 2019 with a total valuation of $158,943,000. The City has also issued 176 townhome permits with a total valuation of $34,490,000 through December, compared to 99 townhome permits with a total valuation of $21,679,000 during the same period in 2019. The City has issued nine apartment permits through Dec ember, totaling 408 units, with a valuation of $51,433,000. The City has issued commercial and industrial permits through December with a total valuation of $106,076,214. This compares to a total valuation of $63,253,742 in 2019. Lakeville issued the highest number of residential permits in 2020 in the Twin Cities followed by Otsego, Woodbury, Cottage Grove and Plymouth.
